Costco’s reported decision was narrower than the headline suggests. In September 2025, searches of Costco’s US and UK online stores showed no Xbox results, and a news report later relayed a commentator’s account that Costco said it had no plans to carry an Xbox console. That does not confirm every US warehouse removed every Xbox product, and there is no evidence that Xbox price increases caused the reported decision.
Did Costco remove Xbox consoles from US stores?
There is evidence that Xbox consoles disappeared from Costco’s US online search results in September 2025, but not that every US warehouse removed every console, game, gift card, and accessory. Windows Central reported on September 24 that searches of Costco’s US and UK online storefronts returned no Xbox results. Its writer said local warehouse availability had not been checked; the report also noted Xbox products remained listed by Costco Canada at that time. Windows Central’s September 24 report

In a September 25 follow-up, Windows Central relayed commentator Destin Legarie’s account of a phone call with Costco. Legarie said Costco told him, “We don’t have any plans going forward to carry an Xbox console.” The report characterized the decision as a business decision, but did not provide a specific reason or link to a Costco press release. That account concerns carrying a console. It is not confirmation of a chainwide removal of every Xbox-related product from US stores.

Did the Xbox price increase cause Costco’s decision?
No cited source establishes that connection. Windows Central said the reason was unknown in its September 24 report; its follow-up relayed the phrase “business decision” without a detailed explanation. The timing of price changes is context, not proof that higher prices prompted Costco’s reported decision.
What did the $600 Xbox price refer to?
Microsoft’s US price table dated October 3, 2025 listed the Xbox Series X Digital at $599.99. The standard Xbox Series X was listed at $649.99, so “$600” described the digital model, not the standard model. These are historical prices from that date, not verified current prices. What are Xbox prices now?
Microsoft announced on Xbox Wire on June 25, 2026 that price increases would take effect August 1, 2026: US prices would rise by $100 for 512 GB models and $150 for 1 TB models. Microsoft also said it would sunset the 2 TB model. The announcement does not give exact post-change US prices for each SKU, so those amounts should not be used to calculate or state a current model price without checking Microsoft’s current price list. Xbox Wire’s June 25, 2026 announcement
Microsoft attributed the increases to component-cost pressures, including higher storage and memory costs. It said those component prices had increased by more than 2.5 times and expected them to double again by fall 2027. Both figures are Microsoft’s statements in that announcement, not independently established industry-wide measurements; the latter is a forecast, not a confirmed outcome. Microsoft also described consoles as typically being sold below their cost to make, which is the company’s characterization of console economics.

How to check whether your Costco has an Xbox
Costco’s online results cannot settle the question for every local warehouse. Costco says its online and warehouse assortments may differ, and prices can vary because of warehouse-only promotions and shipping costs. Its local-availability guidance recommends selecting a warehouse and checking online when inventory information is available for the item, or contacting the warehouse directly. - Set your preferred warehouse on Costco’s site or app.
- Search for the specific Xbox model or bundle and check any displayed local availability.
- If the item does not show local inventory, contact the warehouse to ask about its stock.
A Costco SameDay page has an indexed listing for an “Xbox Series X 1TB Console with Additional Controller,” item 1483699, showing a snapshot price of $562.99 and “Out of stock.” That page is one dynamic listing, not evidence of current availability across Costco warehouses. Costco SameDay listing

What buying options did Microsoft describe?
In its June 2026 announcement, Microsoft pointed to buy-now-pay-later and 0% financing through partners, previously played consoles through retail partners, and certified refurbished consoles through Microsoft Stores. It said certified refurbished consoles could be up to $100 off MSRP. These are options described in that announcement, not confirmation that a particular offer, model, or price is available now; check the seller’s current terms before buying.
