Dianna Russini’s documented career move was her resignation from The Athletic on April 14, 2026. The resignation followed the publication of photographs showing Russini and New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel at an Arizona resort, and preceded a later reported finding that their relationship violated The Athletic’s standards. That review did not establish the relationship’s exact nature.
What career move did Dianna Russini make?
Russini resigned from The Athletic on April 14, 2026, before her contract was due to expire on June 30, according to The Associated Press. In her resignation letter to Executive Editor Steven Ginsberg, she said she was leaving before the contract end date and did not accept the narrative that had developed around the episode. She also wrote: “I have covered the NFL with professionalism and dedication throughout my career, and I stand behind every story I have ever published.”

The available reporting does not establish that Russini subsequently joined another outlet or took a new public role. The documented move is her departure from The Athletic, not a reported new job.

What the review did—and did not—conclude
CBS/AP attributed this statement to The Athletic’s review: “We neither completed an investigation nor reached any conclusion about the nature of the full relationship between Vrabel and Russini, but the totality of the public photographs are enough to conclude a violation of company policy.” The reported finding was a standards violation based on the public photographs; it was not a determination of the relationship’s exact nature.
