What was the reported purse split for Haney vs. Garcia?
Before the April 20, 2024 bout, The Sporting News reported that Bill Haney described the split as 55/45 in Ryan Garcia’s favor. The report said the precise amounts were unknown. Treat 55/45 as an attributed report about the negotiated split—not a published contract, a verified accounting, or proof of what either boxer ultimately received.
How does the $1.1 million purse figure fit in?
The Ring reported that Garcia’s contract submitted to the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) listed a $1,100,000 purse. This was a commission-filed base-purse figure, not an estimate of his full compensation: the report specified that it did not include pay-per-view (PPV) revenue.
The NYSAC settlement, as reported by The Ring, ordered Garcia’s purse forfeited to Golden Boy Promotions. That regulatory order concerns the filed purse; it does not by itself establish how any PPV receipts or other amounts were ultimately divided between the fighters and promoter.

Did either fighter receive a high eight-figure payday?
The Ring reported that both fighters claimed high eight-figure paydays, but said PPV figures were never reported. The same coverage noted claims of more than 500,000 buys at a $69.99 standard price without confirming those sales as actual PPV figures. Without verified buys, contract terms, and a final accounting, those claims cannot be converted into a reliable earnings total.
What was the dispute over additional payments?
Golden Boy said it had paid both fighters what they were owed under their contracts and that further PPV payments would be made as revenue came in. The Ring also described the fighters’ public complaints about supplemental payments. The promoter’s statement is its position; the available reporting does not provide a final private accounting that resolves the dispute.

What did Haney’s lawsuit claim?
In September 2024, Bill Haney’s lawsuit alleged that he and Devin Haney Inc. were entitled to 47 percent of bout profits and sought a share of money Garcia had been ordered to return, according to The Ring’s report on the suit. That 47 percent was a litigant’s allegation, not a court finding. The reviewed coverage does not establish the case’s final disposition.
Why was Garcia’s purse forfeited?
The Ring reported that the NYSAC settlement changed Garcia’s win to an official no contest, ordered his purse forfeited, imposed a $10,000 fine, and suspended his New York boxing license through April 20, 2025, subject to a clean urinalysis. These are terms of the reported commission settlement; they do not verify the fighters’ total compensation or settle the separate questions about PPV revenue and private payments.

When and where did the fight take place?
Haney and Garcia fought on April 20, 2024, at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. DAZN carried the event as a PPV and announced a three-part 40 Days documentary series about the buildup. That announcement does not establish whether the fight or documentary is currently available to watch.
