It can be useful for finding pre-owned clothes or listing items you no longer wear, but the real cost depends on where you live, how you pay, and how you arrange shipping. Check the checkout total before buying and calculate seller fees before setting a price.
What is Depop?
Depop connects people buying and selling primarily secondhand clothing. In Etsy’s 2025 annual report, the company reported 55.6 million registered users, 7.0 million active buyers and 3.2 million active sellers as of December 31, 2025; apparel represented 93% of Depop gross merchandise sales that year. For buyers, the appeal is browsing individual sellers’ clothing listings. For sellers, it is access to a fashion-focused audience. Neither platform size nor a listing’s popularity guarantees a sale, a particular price or a fast turnaround.
Does Depop charge sellers a fee?
As of October 8, 2026, Depop’s seller-fee page lists no Depop selling fee for sellers based in the UK, US and Australia. Payment-processing charges still apply. Sellers in other markets may pay a selling fee, depending on the listed currency and shipping conditions. Depop’s current selling-fee page

Depop says payment-processing fees are calculated on the item price plus shipping and applicable taxes. Boosting a listing can add another charge: the current page lists 12% for UK and US sellers on new listings from March 23, 2026, and 8% outside the UK and US. For Australia specifically, Depop announced that seller fees on AUD sales would end July 22, 2026, while processing and boosting fees would remain. The announcement also introduced an Australian buyer marketplace fee. Depop’s Australian fee announcement

What fees do Depop buyers pay?
UK and US buyers may see a marketplace fee at checkout of up to 5% of the item price plus up to £1 or $1, excluding taxes and shipping. Australia’s marketplace fee is up to 5% plus A$1, excluding taxes and shipping, effective July 22, 2026. For UK and US bundles, the percentage part is based on the combined item price and the fixed part is charged once per transaction. Depop says it refunds the marketplace fee in full if the item is refunded. Depop’s buyer-fee information

Is Depop safe to buy from?
Depop Protection is conditional, not an unconditional guarantee. Depop says eligible purchases made through its app or website, paid through Depop Payments and checked out on-platform may qualify for a full refund if an item does not arrive, arrives damaged or is significantly not as described. The buyer must report the problem within 30 days of purchase. - Keep the purchase and payment on Depop. Private payments through PayPal, bank transfer or another method are not covered by Depop Protection.
- Keep communication on the app or website, and do not share your personal email, phone number or bank details with another user.
- If an order has a problem, use Depop’s stated reporting process and deadline rather than relying on informal arrangements with the seller.

How do I ship clothes I sell on Depop?
- Create an accurate listing. Describe the item clearly and make sure the condition and details are represented accurately.
- Confirm the shipping arrangement. Use the shipping method selected for the transaction. If you arrange shipping yourself rather than using Depop Shipping, Depop recommends tracked shipping.
- Complete payment on Depop. Do not move payment to a private PayPal, bank transfer or other off-platform method.
- Pack and dispatch the item. A poly mailer is one optional way to package soft goods such as clothing; Depop does not require or endorse a particular mailer or brand.

Is Depop worth using?
Depop is most relevant if you want a marketplace centered on secondhand fashion and are comfortable checking fees and handling the practicalities of peer-to-peer buying or selling. Buyers should assess the complete checkout amount and keep eligible purchases on-platform. Sellers should estimate proceeds after payment processing and any boosting charge, then choose a shipping method that fits the transaction.

There is no neutral, independent satisfaction score or verified average time to sell established here, so treat a listing as an opportunity rather than predictable income. Depop’s newsroom reports that Australian sellers who make at least one sale generate average first-year sales of A$502; that is a company-reported average for that group, not a typical earnings promise.
