The agreement, disclosed in a Delta Form 8-K on January 12, 2026, includes an option for up to 30 additional aircraft; those optional planes are not part of the 30-aircraft firm order. Deliveries are planned to begin in 2031.
What did Delta agree to buy?
Delta’s Form 8-K says the airline entered a definitive acquisition agreement with Boeing on January 12, 2026. Delta and Boeing announced the order the next day. The filing covers 30 Boeing 787-10s, with an option for up to 30 more. That distinction matters: the announced firm order is for 30 aircraft, not 60. Delta’s announcement and Boeing’s announcement describe the same order.
Delta says the purchase is within its previously announced capital-expenditure and capacity targets. The filing also says long-term financing has been obtained for a substantial portion of each aircraft’s purchase price, but the filing passage does not disclose the price. It therefore does not support a specific total order value or a claim about the cash cost of the deal.
When will the 787-10s arrive?
Delta says deliveries are planned to begin in 2031. That is a planned start, not a delivery schedule for individual aircraft, and the announcement does not say the 787-10 is already in Delta service. The date appears in Delta’s 787-10 media kit, listed as updated August 3, 2026, and in its 2026 filing and announcement.

Cabin and passenger features
Delta has announced plans for a higher-gauge cabin with Delta One Suites, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort, and Main Cabin, plus more than 1,000 hours of free in-flight entertainment and Delta Sync Wi-Fi. These are plans for aircraft expected from 2031, not confirmation of the final delivered layouts or proof that those features are currently available on a Delta 787-10.
Delta says Delta One Suites currently make up 45% of Delta One seats across its widebody fleet. That fleet-wide figure does not establish how many suites each 787-10 will have.

What do the published capacity and efficiency figures mean?
Boeing publishes a capacity figure of up to 336 passengers for the 787-10. It is Boeing’s aircraft figure, not Delta’s announced seat count or final cabin layout. Delta has not published a final seat map for its aircraft.
Both companies cite a 25% fuel-related improvement, but the comparisons are worded differently. Boeing says the 787 uses 25% less fuel than the airplanes it replaces. Delta says the 787-10 will be 25% more fuel-efficient per seat than the previous-generation widebody aircraft it will replace. These are company-published comparisons, not independent test findings; the sources do not establish that the figure will apply identically on every route or under every operating condition.
