Endeavor Air Flight 5087, operating as Delta Connection, slid off the end of a runway at Des Moines International Airport on Nov. 29, 2025. The airport closed temporarily and reopened the next morning. Local reports said some Sunday flights were delayed or canceled—not that every flight was canceled.
What happened at Des Moines International Airport?
At about 9:30 p.m. local time on Saturday, Nov. 29, Endeavor Air Flight 5087 slid off the end of a runway while turning onto a taxiway at Des Moines International Airport in Iowa. The FAA described the flight as an Endeavor Air flight. ABC News reported it was a Delta Connection flight originating in Detroit.
Delta said the aircraft left the paved surface because of icy conditions on landing, according to ABC News. That is the airline’s account, not a final investigative finding about the cause.
Were all Des Moines flights canceled?
No. The available local reporting does not establish that all flights were canceled. The airport closed for several hours and reopened on Sunday, Nov. 30. Des Moines International Airport’s official account said, “The airfield is now open and operations have resumed,” as quoted by KTIV.

Were anyone injured, and how did passengers leave?
ABC News reported that 54 passengers and four crew members were aboard and that no injuries were reported. The FAA said passengers deplaned using stairs and were bused to the terminal. KCCI reported the crew included two pilots and two flight attendants.

Who operated the flight?
Delta Air Lines is the airline brand associated with the service, while Delta Connection is its regional-service brand. The operating carrier was Endeavor Air, and the FAA identified the aircraft’s flight as Endeavor Air Flight 5087. Keeping those names distinct helps clarify which flight and company were involved.
How did the incident fit into Thanksgiving weekend travel?
The runway incident occurred amid a broad winter storm and heavy post-Thanksgiving travel. ABC News, citing FlightAware, reported more than 1,400 cancellations nationwide on Saturday, Nov. 29. That national figure is not a Des Moines count. The same report said Chicago O’Hare had more than 930 cancellations and more than 750 delays as of Saturday afternoon; those figures apply to O’Hare, not Des Moines.

What is known about the cause?
The available reports do not establish a final cause, a runway-condition measurement, or fault. Delta attributed the aircraft’s departure from the paved surface to icy conditions, while the FAA said it would investigate and ABC News reported an NTSB investigation. No final NTSB report or probable-cause determination is established in these accounts.
Delta said, “Safety comes before all else and we apologize to our customers for the experience,” according to KCCI.
