Delta Comfort Basic is a lower-priced fare in the Delta Comfort cabin: it includes extra legroom and the cabin’s listed onboard benefits, but not advance seat selection, upgrades or same-day flight changes. Seats are assigned after check-in, and availability is limited to select itineraries. Whether it is worthwhile depends on the fare gap and how much you value choosing a seat and keeping travel options open.
What Delta Comfort Basic includes
Delta announced Comfort Basic on Nov. 6, 2025, for travel beginning Nov. 19, 2025. Delta says the onboard experience matches Comfort Classic or Comfort Extra, including:
- Extra legroom in the Delta Comfort cabin
- Dedicated overhead bin space
- Zone 3 boarding
- Complimentary wine, beer and spirits on most flights
- Access to a Delta Sky Club if you have valid entry credentials, such as an eligible membership or credit card
Comfort Basic is sold as a revenue ticket, not as an award booking with miles. Delta announced a 14-day advance-purchase booking window. See Delta’s launch announcement for its description of the experience and availability.
What Comfort Basic gives up
The lower fare comes with less control over the trip. Delta assigns your seat after check-in; advance seat selection is not included. Comfort Basic is also ineligible for upgrades and same-day confirmed or standby changes. Delta’s fare rules say that, after the risk-free cancellation period, the ticket cannot be refunded. In most cases, changes incur a fee; cancellations before departure may also incur a fee, with remaining value issued as an eCredit. Exact terms can depend on the itinerary and ticket, so review the conditions shown at purchase.

Comfort Basic vs. Comfort Classic and Comfort Extra
Delta’s current comparison distinguishes the three Comfort fares as follows. Mileage figures are for general SkyMiles members and apply per eligible dollar; eligible spend includes base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges, but excludes government-imposed taxes and fees.

| Same-day options | Not eligible | Free same-day standby | Free same-day confirmed, where available |
| Boarding | Zone 3 | Zone 3 | Zone 3 |
| SkyMiles earning | 2 miles per eligible dollar | 5 miles per eligible dollar | 7 miles per eligible dollar |

Delta says Comfort Basic also earns credit toward Medallion Status. Its published cancellation wording is: “you will not be able to refund your ticket after the Risk-Free Cancellation period.” Review Delta’s current travel-experience comparison and the ticket-specific rules before paying; fare conditions can depend on the itinerary.

Comfort Basic vs. Delta Main Basic
Both Basic fares assign seats after check-in, exclude upgrades and restrict changes or cancellation. Comfort Basic adds the Comfort cabin’s extra legroom, dedicated overhead bin space, Zone 3 boarding, and complimentary alcoholic beverages on most flights. It also earns eligible SkyMiles and Medallion qualification credit, and permits Sky Club entry for travelers with valid credentials. Delta Main Basic does not include those Comfort features and, under the terms in Delta’s launch announcement, does not earn miles.
Where Comfort Basic is available
Delta described availability at launch as limited to “very select” Delta-marketed and operated domestic itineraries. It is itinerary-specific, so its presence on one route does not establish availability on another. Delta’s booking flow displays the option when it is offered; check Delta.com or the Fly Delta app for the specific flight and dates. Delta’s travel-experience FAQ also addresses shopping for the new fare options.

How to decide if the lower fare is worth it
Compare the actual fare difference on your itinerary with the value of the flexibility you would give up. Comfort Basic is a better fit when the savings matter more than advance seat choice or same-day options, and your plans are unlikely to change. If choosing a seat beforehand, retaining upgrade eligibility or getting a refund matters, compare Classic and Extra before booking. The mileage rate also differs: Basic earns less per eligible dollar than either higher Comfort fare.
