CRN reported that Dell confirmed some sales employees would leave as the company shifted its storage sales strategy toward partners. LinkedIn posts reviewed by CRN most often described sales roles, but Dell did not disclose a total, and the posts are not a complete count of affected workers. CRN also could not determine whether the departures were included in the 6,650 job cuts Dell announced in February.
What is known about the Dell layoffs
Dell told CRN: “Some members of our sales team will leave the company. We don’t make these decisions lightly, and we’ll support those impacted as they transition to their next opportunity.” The company’s statement confirmed departures but did not specify how many employees would leave.
CRN said it reviewed dozens of employee LinkedIn posts about job losses. Sales positions appeared most frequently in that sample. The outlet described affected roles including Apex account executives, data-center and technical-sales representatives, account managers, sales managers, and a services sales representative. It also identified posts from employees in roles such as advisory and cloud solutions architects, a financial account manager, a data-center platform specialist, and a solutions architect. These posts indicate which kinds of roles appeared in the sample; they do not establish the overall distribution of cuts.
CRN also observed 25 U.S.-based Dell employees using #opentowork in posts during the 24 hours before its report. That is a short-window count, not a tally of everyone laid off.

Why storage sales were changing
The departures were associated with a partner-led storage go-to-market strategy intended to move more storage revenue through Dell’s channel partners. Under the reported plan, direct-sales employees received increased compensation when storage deals were routed through partners. Dell also expanded its “partner of record” definition to include four times as many partners, according to CRN.
The change covered PowerMax, PowerFlex, PowerStore, and PowerScale, as well as hyperconverged and converged products and security-storage products. Bill Scannell, Dell’s president of sales and customer operations, described the strategy as “the biggest change ever to the company’s go-to-market.” Michael Dell said it extended the company’s commitment to partners and combined their strengths with Dell’s team and solutions.

What the report does not establish
- A total for this round: Dell did not give CRN a number for sales employees leaving.
- Whether it overlaps with the February cuts: CRN could not establish whether these departures were included in the 6,650 cuts Dell announced in February. The two figures should not be added together.
- The full mix of affected roles: LinkedIn posts are individual reports reviewed by CRN, not a comprehensive Dell headcount disclosure.
- A precise publication date: The accessible CRN article text does not show one, so its relative references cannot be reliably converted into calendar dates.
CRN also reported that Dell shares had risen 10 percent from Friday’s close to $58.51 after the strategy announcement, and cited storage-market figures of 31.5 percent for enterprise storage and 11.5 percent for software storage. Those are historical snapshots reported at the time, not current stock or market-share figures; the accessible article text does not establish their calendar year.

The clearest signal is that Dell linked some sales-team departures to a change in how it wanted to sell storage, while the roles visible in CRN’s employee-post sample were most often sales-related. The available reporting does not identify every affected team, quantify the departures, or show whether the cuts were limited to a particular location. Workers should rely on individual employer communications for decisions about their own roles and benefits rather than treating the LinkedIn sample as a complete workforce list.
