The “up to 60%” AC discount was part of a Delhi electricity-utility exchange offer—not a nationwide Government of India subsidy. The published BYPL and BRPL offer periods ended in July 2026, so as of 7 October 2026 you should confirm directly with your electricity provider whether a scheme has been extended or relaunched before relying on the discount.
What the AC replacement offer was
BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) and BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) described separate offers for their own domestic electricity consumers in different parts of Delhi. Both were exchanges: a consumer had to trade in an eligible old AC for a new energy-efficient 5-star model. Neither offer was a general cash subsidy available to AC buyers across India.
The headline percentages were maximum advertised discounts, not guaranteed savings for every buyer. The final price depended on the eligible model and the scheme’s terms. The available official information does not establish current model-wise prices or confirm an active offer in October 2026.

Who could qualify under the published terms?
BYPL consumers
BYPL said applicants needed a metered domestic BYPL connection with no outstanding dues, along with an old AC in working condition rated up to 3-star. The page covered 1, 1.5 and 2 TR replacements and limited the offer to three ACs per CA number. It described an overall target of 3,000 replacements.
BRPL consumers
BRPL described its offer for domestic consumers in South and West Delhi, with a maximum of three units per CA number and 5,300 ACs stated as available. Its FAQ included additional documentation rules: tenants needed an NOC, and certain group-housing-society consumers needed further documents. Check the current official FAQ for the requirements that apply to your connection.

How the exchange process was described
The published BYPL process began with registration through its website or virtual customer help desk. After pre-registration and document verification, an applicant received a number, selected a manufacturer and model, and had the old unit physically verified by the original equipment manufacturer. BYPL listed a latest paid bill, identity proof and address proof among the required evidence.
BRPL also described online or help-desk registration, followed by vendor contact after approval. It asked for government-issued identity proof for the registered consumer and specified extra documents in some cases. These are descriptions of the expired offers, not confirmation that the same application routes or steps remain available.

What to check before counting on a discount
- Identify your distributor. Check the name on your electricity bill. The published BYPL terms covered East and Central Delhi; BRPL’s covered South and West Delhi.
- Confirm the offer is active. The published end dates have passed. Ask your utility whether it has extended or relaunched the AC replacement offer; a scheme listing on a website alone does not confirm active registration.
- Get current written terms. If applications are open, verify eligibility, old-unit condition, model availability, the exact price and discount basis, unit limits, required documents and registration steps with the utility.
- Ask about installation costs. BRPL’s published FAQ said standard installation was free but additional requirements could incur charges. Confirm what counts as standard and what you would pay for your home and selected model.
- Compare the final payable price. Ask for the model-wise price and written exchange terms before deciding. Do not calculate your savings by applying the advertised maximum percentage to an assumed price.
What the advertised savings do—and do not—tell you
“Up to” describes a ceiling, not the discount every customer receives. The available official information does not establish current model-level prices, an active discount, or independently audited household savings. A historical BYPL leaflet promoted annual savings of up to 2,000 units depending on model and usage; that was an estimate, not a guaranteed result for a household.
A historical BEE compendium extract reported a BRPL rebate of ₹4,000–₹5,300 for 1.5-ton 5-star ACs. That is past program detail, not current pricing. Do not use it as a quote for a present purchase.
Bottom line for buyers in October 2026
These were Delhi utility exchange offers with different service areas and terms, not a nationwide government AC subsidy. Since the published BYPL and BRPL periods ended in July 2026, confirm directly with your distributor whether a new or extended scheme is open before budgeting for a discounted AC. If no current offer is confirmed, compare ordinary retail prices on their own merits; buying a 5-star AC by itself does not enroll you in a BSES scheme or prove eligibility.
