Dedicated server hosting typically costs about $40–$110 per month for budget unmanaged bare metal, $90–$180 for mainstream managed service, several hundred dollars for premium hardware, and $1,000 or more for enterprise systems. Cloud dedicated hosts such as AWS Dedicated Hosts use a different, calculator-based pricing model.
The advertised monthly rate is only the starting point. Your real cost may also include renewals, control panels, backups, licenses, setup, migration, extra IP addresses, taxes, bandwidth charges, security, and the value of your own administration time. Prices below were checked against the supplied August 16, 2026 snapshot; promotions, availability, taxes, and terms can change.

Dedicated server hosting prices at a glance
A dedicated server rents an entire physical machine to one customer. Traditional bare metal, managed dedicated hosting, and cloud dedicated hardware should not be compared as if they were identical products.
| Category | Typical monthly range | Usually includes | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Budget unmanaged bare metal | $40–$110 | Older or entry-level CPU, 16–32 GB RAM, SSD/NVMe, limited support | Experienced administrators and cost-sensitive workloads |
| Mainstream managed dedicated | $90–$180 | Server, operating-system management, support, control panel, and sometimes backups/security | Businesses, agencies, ecommerce, and teams without server staff |
| Higher-performance managed | $150–$300 | More memory, newer CPUs, larger backup/security bundles, or Windows licensing | Growing databases, SaaS, and demanding websites |
| Premium bare metal | $500–$700+ | High-core-count CPUs and larger memory/storage configurations | Specialized or heavily utilized workloads |
| Enterprise bare metal | $1,000+ | High availability features, redundant power, large memory, stronger SLAs | Critical infrastructure and regulated workloads |
| Cloud dedicated hosts | Calculator-dependent | Physical-host isolation plus cloud networking and services | Cloud-native, compliance, and server-license workloads |
A $44 promotional bare-metal server can therefore be cheaper in cash than a $137 managed package, but the managed package may include the control panel, backups, DDoS protection, security tooling, and infrastructure administration. See Liquid Web’s bare-metal explanation and package inclusions.

What determines the price?
- CPU: Generation, physical cores, clock speed, and single-thread performance affect cost.
- Memory: RAM capacity and ECC memory matter especially for databases and virtualization.
- Storage: NVMe generally costs more than SATA SSDs; drive count and RAID level also matter.
- Network: Port speed, traffic allowance, DDoS protection, routing, and egress policy are separate considerations.
- Management: Patching, monitoring, hardening, migrations, troubleshooting, and recovery assistance may be bundled or charged separately.
- Software: cPanel, Plesk, Windows Server, SQL Server, virtualization, security, and backup licenses can materially change the bill.
- Commercial terms: Introductory pricing, annual commitments, setup fees, cancellation rules, and renewal rates can outweigh hardware differences.
Best dedicated server hosts in 2026
Liquid Web: best managed-value option
Liquid Web is the clearest fit for buyers who want operational services bundled with dedicated hardware. Its displayed Linux packages include examples at $90 per month for 32 GB, $137 per month for 64 GB, and $155 per month for 128 GB. The listed features include managed service, cPanel, Acronis backup capacity, DDoS protection, and Imunify360, though exact inclusions and support boundaries should be confirmed before checkout. Visit the official package page.
Liquid Web’s bare-metal page also shows a two-month promotion at $44 per month for an Intel Xeon E-2134 configuration, alongside an indicated regular price of $88 per month. Another E-2456 configuration is shown at $107 promotional pricing and $214 regular pricing. Higher-performance examples are listed at $525 and $647 per month. The promotion is for new accounts and does not apply to upgrades, so do not treat $44 as a permanent monthly cost. See the bare-metal pricing page.
Best for: Managed business websites, ecommerce, agencies, and buyers who value predictable support.

Main caution: “Fully managed” is not a universal service standard. Confirm whether application troubleshooting, backup restoration, emergency recovery, migrations, and custom configuration are included.
OVHcloud: best bandwidth and bare-metal value candidate
OVHcloud’s US bare-metal page shows starting prices of $79 per month for Game, $98 for Advance, $472 for Scale, and $1,121 for High Grade. The ranges target different workloads: gaming and streaming, small and medium-business applications, complex infrastructure, and critical loads. The page also advertises unlimited traffic, while public bandwidth and SLA terms vary by range. Review the OVHcloud bare-metal catalog.
Unlimited traffic does not mean unlimited port speed or guaranteed throughput. Compare the interface speed, congestion and fair-use rules, DDoS policy, regional routing, IPv4 charges, and SLA exclusions. OVHcloud says there are no setup fees with a commitment, but its billing documentation explains that setup fees can depend on the product and billing arrangement.

Main caution: The lower cash price generally comes with less hands-on management than a managed hosting package.
Bluehost: best guided workflow and renewal-price visibility
Bluehost publishes renewal pricing for its dedicated plans, making it a useful benchmark for buyers who want to see the post-promotion economics. The displayed monthly renewal prices are $171.39 for Standard NVMe 32, $263.39 for Enhanced NVMe 64, and $378.39 for Premium NVMe 128. The same page shows lower effective monthly prices for 12-, 24-, and 36-month terms.
Features listed include NVMe storage, unmetered bandwidth, SSL, CDN or caching features, backups, and WordPress-oriented support. Verify which benefits apply to the exact plan and whether they renew under the same terms. “Unmetered” bandwidth should not automatically be treated as equivalent to a dedicated 1 Gbps or 10 TB allowance. See Bluehost’s dedicated-hosting pricing.
Best for: Less technical website owners and WordPress-heavy businesses that prefer guided setup.
Main caution: Its renewal prices are substantially higher than entry-level unmanaged bare metal, so compare CPU, management scope, backups, location, and licensing—not just the plan name.

AWS Dedicated Hosts: best for cloud-native and licensing requirements
AWS Dedicated Hosts are physical hosts allocated to one customer and billed according to host type, region, and payment model. They are not a simple monthly dedicated-server subscription. On-demand billing begins when the host is allocated and is charged per second with a 60-second minimum. Reservations may use no upfront, partial upfront, or all upfront payment options.
AWS says Dedicated Host Reservations can provide discounts of up to 70% versus on-demand pricing, subject to eligibility and commitment. Savings Plans do not apply to every high-memory Dedicated Host type. Use the AWS Dedicated Host billing documentation and overview to model the exact region and host family.
Dedicated Hosts can make financial sense when you need physical host visibility, AWS services, compliance controls, or eligible server-bound software licenses under a bring-your-own-license model. Dedicated Instances provide hardware isolation from other AWS accounts but do not provide the same host visibility and placement control as Dedicated Hosts; see AWS’s distinction.
Best for: Enterprise and cloud-native systems, compliance-sensitive deployments, and customers with eligible licenses.
Main caution: A lightly used physical host can be wasteful because you pay for the host rather than only the capacity consumed.

First-year TCO = (monthly price × billable months)
+ setup fee + licenses + backups + extra IPs
+ migration + support add-ons + taxes
+ estimated administration cost
Example 1: promotional bare metal
$44 × 2 promotional months
+ $88 × 10 regular months
= $968 before taxes and add-ons
This uses Liquid Web’s displayed promotional and regular rates. It is an illustration, not a guaranteed invoice; eligibility, taxes, billing terms, and extras may differ.

$137 × 12 months = $1,644 before taxes and optional extras
This uses the displayed 64 GB Liquid Web managed-package price. The value is not directly comparable with unmanaged bare metal because bundled services differ.
Example 3: Bluehost renewal
$171.39 × 12 months = $2,056.68 before taxes and extras
This uses Bluehost’s displayed Standard NVMe 32 monthly renewal price.
Managed versus unmanaged hosting
| Choose managed if… | Choose unmanaged if… |
|---|---|
| You lack Linux or infrastructure staff | You already administer servers confidently |
| Downtime and incident response are expensive | You can handle patching and emergencies |
| You need bundled backups and security | You already operate and test those systems |
| You prefer predictable support costs | You want maximum control and the lowest cash price |
To price the labor honestly, use:
Effective monthly cost = provider bill
+ (administration hours × internal hourly value)
Ask whether management includes kernel and operating-system patches, proactive monitoring, firewall hardening, malware response, backup testing, migration, application troubleshooting, 24/7 support, and emergency recovery. Host management may cover the operating system and control panel without covering custom application code.
What hardware do you actually need?
| Workload | Starting point to investigate | Important consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Several modest websites | 4–8 modern cores, 16–32 GB RAM, SSD/NVMe RAID | Dedicated hardware may be unnecessary at low traffic |
| WooCommerce or ecommerce | 8–16 cores, 32–64 GB RAM, NVMe RAID-1 | Database, caching, and recovery matter more than core count alone |
| SaaS application | 8–16 cores, 32–64 GB RAM | One physical server is not high availability |
| Game server | Strong single-thread CPU, low-latency network, DDoS protection | Requirements depend on the game and player count |
| Database-heavy system | High-memory CPU, NVMe, RAID | Measure storage latency, IOPS, and restore time |
| Virtualization host | High core count and RAM | Check virtualization permissions and licensing |
| AI or GPU workload | GPU-capable dedicated or cloud hardware | CPU-only hosting may be poor value |
These are investigation starting points, not universal minimums. Monitor CPU utilization, memory pressure, swap, disk latency, network throughput, database working-set size, peak concurrency, backup duration, and load-test response time before buying a larger machine.

Dedicated server versus VPS versus cloud
Choose a VPS when the main issue is modest resource contention, an inefficient application, or the need for a larger environment without paying for unused physical capacity. Optimize the database, caching, images, CDN, plugins, and application code before assuming dedicated hardware is necessary.

Choose traditional dedicated hosting when you need consistent physical CPU performance, substantial RAM, high disk throughput, hardware isolation, virtualization control, special licensing, or predictable network capacity.
Choose cloud instances when demand is seasonal, unpredictable, multi-region, or tightly integrated with managed databases, queues, object storage, autoscaling, and other cloud services. Cloud can have a higher unit price but reduce waste when demand changes sharply. AWS documents its on-demand, Savings Plans, Reserved Instances, Spot, Dedicated Host, and Dedicated Instance choices in its instance purchasing guide.
Consider colocation or owned hardware only after including hardware depreciation, replacement parts, warranties, spares, rack and power fees, transit, remote hands, monitoring, disaster recovery, and staff time. Ownership is not automatically cheaper.

- Introductory rate versus regular or renewal rate.
- Required contract length and cancellation penalties.
- Setup, provisioning, or migration charges.
- Control-panel and operating-system licenses.
- Windows, SQL Server, virtualization, or security licenses.
- Backup storage, retention, off-site copies, and restoration fees.
- Extra IPv4 addresses and network services.
- DDoS protection and premium support.
- Taxes, currency conversion, and payment fees.
- Traffic limits, egress pricing, port speed, and fair-use rules.
- Internal administration and incident-response labor.
RAID is not backup. RAID can help maintain availability after some disk failures, but it does not protect against deletion, ransomware, corruption, compromised credentials, operator error, total server loss, or a data-center outage. Keep off-server backups, define retention, test restoration, and document recovery steps.
Ways to lower the bill without buying a risky bargain
- Compare renewals: Record the introductory rate, duration, regular rate, renewal rate, required term, setup fee, and first- and second-year totals.
- Right-size the machine: Do not pay for 128 GB of RAM if monitoring shows your workload needs 16 GB.
- Value administration time: A $40 monthly saving can disappear if self-management consumes several hours or creates one avoidable outage.
- Use commitments carefully: Discounts can help when utilization is predictable, but confirm upgrade options, cancellation terms, price protection, hardware-failure treatment, and backup charges.
- Separate static traffic: A CDN can reduce origin bandwidth and workload, although it does not replace adequate origin capacity.
- Choose the right location: A nearby data center may improve latency and reduce operational problems even if its headline price is slightly higher.
- Use included backups intelligently: Check capacity, retention, off-site location, encryption, and restoration before paying for more storage.
- Use cloud elasticity for bursts: Avoid permanently renting a large dedicated server for brief seasonal peaks.
- Reserve cloud hosts only with predictable use: AWS discounts may reduce the bill but tie you to commitments, regions, and host families.
- Negotiate service extras: Ask about waived migration or setup charges, but confirm the recurring price after any concession.
Recommendations by use case
- Managed business websites or ecommerce: Start with a managed package such as Liquid Web’s $90–$155 examples, then verify support and backup scope.
- Budget, high-bandwidth workloads: Evaluate OVHcloud’s Game or Advance ranges, comparing port speed and management—not only its traffic allowance.
- Game servers: Prioritize single-thread performance, location, latency, DDoS protection, and player-count testing.
- Database-heavy systems: Prioritize RAM, NVMe latency, RAID, backup restoration, and recovery objectives.
- Agencies: Managed hosting can be worthwhile when it reduces client-impacting maintenance and incident work.
- Cloud-native enterprise systems: Consider AWS Dedicated Hosts when AWS integration, isolation, compliance, or eligible BYOL licensing justifies host-based billing.
- Low-traffic sites: Compare a VPS first; dedicated hardware may leave substantial capacity unused.
Pre-purchase checklist
- Exact CPU model, generation, cores, and threads.
- RAM capacity, ECC support, and upgrade path.
- Drive type, number of drives, RAID level, and replacement policy.
- Port speed, included traffic, egress rules, and DDoS policy.
- Data-center location, latency, routing, and SLA exclusions.
- Backup capacity, retention, off-site location, and tested restoration.
- Control-panel, operating-system, database, and security licenses.
- Management boundaries and support response targets.
- Migration, setup, emergency recovery, and hardware replacement fees.
- Promotional duration, regular price, renewal rate, contract, and cancellation terms.
- Taxes, currency, extra IP pricing, and final checkout total.
- Monitoring, failover, recovery documentation, and secondary-server requirements.
A dedicated server is still a single physical failure domain unless you add redundancy. For a revenue-critical system, budget for off-server backups, monitoring, tested recovery, and—where appropriate—a secondary server or failover design.
