Cybersecurity company DB Networks announced $17 million in financing on December 9, 2014. Grotech Ventures led the round, with Khosla Ventures and Citi Ventures participating. The announcement did not disclose the financing stage or a company valuation.
Who invested in DB Networks?
DB Networks’ December 9, 2014 announcement named Grotech Ventures as the lead investor and Khosla Ventures and Citi Ventures as participants. Grotech general partner Joe Zell joined the company’s board of directors.
The company did not state how much each investor contributed, so the $17 million figure is the total announced financing—not an amount attributable to any one firm.
What did DB Networks say it would do with the funding?
Chairman and CEO Brett Helm said the financing would support further innovation, expansion of the company’s product portfolio, and business growth. The announcement did not provide a spending breakdown, timeline, or financial projections.

What did DB Networks sell?
At the time, DB Networks described itself as a cybersecurity company protecting databases and core networks. It said its technology used behavioral analysis to learn normal application interactions with a database, then continuously monitored for attacks. These were company descriptions; the announcement did not provide independent product testing or performance results.
Contemporaneous SecurityWeek coverage also discussed the DBN-6300 appliance and database monitoring. That is historical product context, not confirmation that the appliance or company remains available today.

What did investors say about the company?
In the issuer’s announcement, Citi Ventures managing director for investing Ramneek Gupta said the firm sought technologies to improve security for financial and enterprise networks. Zell characterized DB Networks’ approach as a first-of-its-kind solution for core database protection and said he believed large companies facing advanced database threats would need it. Those remarks explain the investors’ stated rationale; they are investor assessments, not independent validation of the product.
