Time+Tide reported on 29 November 2024 that Portnoy announced a fire sale in an Instagram video ahead of Black Friday. The report quotes him saying, “I got my ass f**king handed to me… this is me admitting defeat.” It described the markdown as 80% across the range.

In Time+Tide’s account of the video, Portnoy blamed “watch nerds” for the brand’s lack of success while also acknowledging that he had misunderstood the watch industry and its community. Time+Tide attributed those remarks to the Instagram video, and the report does not present independent confirmation of the video’s contents.

The report also reproduced a social-media comment addressed to Portnoy: “Dave, with all due respect, everybody loves you, but nobody wants these watches.” That is one commenter’s reaction, not evidence of a general consumer consensus or a measured explanation for the company’s performance.

The article characterized the range as two generic white-label designs. It also compared them with similar designs said to sell elsewhere for US$42, but did not identify a directly verifiable listing for that comparison.
