Dave & Buster’s appointed Kevin Bachus, one of the people credited with conceiving the Xbox console, as senior vice president of entertainment and game strategy on October 22, 2012. The newly created role was meant to extend the chain’s in-venue gaming into mobile and online experiences; the announcement and employment documents describe the plan and duties, not its eventual results.
What Dave & Buster’s announced
The company said Bachus’s appointment was effective immediately and that he would lead a newly created senior vice president position overseeing entertainment and game strategy. Its stated ambition was to broaden the business beyond on-premises entertainment and develop a multi-platform gaming strategy that included mobile and online. Dave & Buster’s October 22, 2012 announcement is the company’s account of the appointment and its purpose.
Bachus described the opportunity in terms of reaching video game enthusiasts with new experiences. In the announcement, he said: “Video game enthusiasts are always looking for the next big thing, and I believe Dave & Buster’s is uniquely positioned to deliver it to them.”
What the strategy meant
Dave & Buster’s traditional gaming experience centered on its in-venue Midways. The proposed multi-platform direction meant exploring ways to add mobile and online gaming to that foundation, rather than relying only on games played at its locations. The announcement does not specify particular products, launch dates, or how the digital experiences would connect to venue play.

The distinction matters: the company announced a strategic aim, not a documented rollout or proof that the new approach improved business performance. The available appointment materials do not measure outcomes or compare the performance of arcade, mobile, and online gaming.

The offer was signed October 1, 2012. A later company filing records that Bachus served as senior vice president of entertainment and game strategy beginning in November 2012. The filed employment offer details the assigned duties, while the later filing documents his service in the role.
Who Kevin Bachus was
Dave & Buster’s described Bachus as one of four Microsoft employees who conceived the Xbox console. Before joining the restaurant-and-entertainment chain, he was chief product officer at Bebo. The 2012 announcement said Bebo had more than 120 million registered users at that time; that is a historical figure, not a current user count.

The company’s filing also lists earlier work at Microsoft involving Xbox third-party relations and DirectX product management. These credentials explain why the appointment was framed around both video games and broader entertainment strategy; they do not, by themselves, establish what the strategy achieved.
