Cyversity and United Airlines announced a cybersecurity-training scholarship program on May 30, 2023. The online, on-demand program was available to Cyversity members in good standing and was scheduled to run from May 30 through November 17, 2023. It included Governance, Risk and Compliance training, a choice of three specializations, simulation-based learning and coverage of a certification-exam fee.
Because the published cohort ended in 2023, this should be treated as a historical opportunity—not proof that applications are open in 2026.

What the Cyversity–United Airlines scholarship offered
According to Cyversity’s announcement, the partnership was designed to help women and underrepresented individuals develop cybersecurity skills and career prospects. It was a professional-training initiative, not a college degree, cash grant or stated United Airlines hiring program.

How the two-phase program worked
GRC was the required first phase rather than one of four independent specialization choices.
- Phase I: GRC. This foundation phase was expected to take one to two months. Participants had to complete it before moving forward.
- Phase II: Specialization. Participants then selected one of three tracks, expected to take approximately three to four months.
The published time commitment was approximately five to seven hours per week. The scheduled program dates were May 30 through November 17, 2023.
The three specialization options
| Track | General focus |
|---|---|
| Cybersecurity Network Defense | Defensive security, network protection and blue-team operations |
| Application Security | Application testing and security assessment, described in the announcement as red teaming |
| Cloud Security | Protecting systems, services and data in cloud environments |
These labels describe the program’s stated areas of focus, not a complete published curriculum. The announcement did not specify a cloud platform, technical prerequisites, lab requirements or the depth of the red-team and blue-team content.

Who was eligible?
The only explicit eligibility requirement in the announcement was that applicants be Cyversity members in good standing.
The release did not state whether applicants needed a degree, prior technical experience, U.S. citizenship or residency, a particular income level or a minimum age. It also did not explain whether existing United Airlines employees could apply, whether membership could be obtained after applying or whether demographic quotas applied.
“Member in good standing” may depend on membership status, dues or organizational requirements, but the announcement did not define the phrase. Anyone considering a similar future opportunity should confirm the definition directly with Cyversity.
What the scholarship did not promise
The published information does not establish that the program provided:

United Airlines was identified as the corporate partner supporting the scholarship initiative. The announcement did not provide a funding breakdown or say that United administered every part of the instruction.
Financial considerations for applicants
Training scholarships can reduce the cost barrier for people entering cybersecurity, particularly when they include an examination fee. However, a covered exam fee does not necessarily eliminate all costs. Participants may still need to account for their time, internet access, equipment, supplemental study materials and possible retake or renewal charges.
Rank #4
The announcement did not identify the certification, so applicants could not use it to determine the credential’s broader market value or compare it with other certifications. Training completion also does not guarantee certification, employment, a promotion or a return on investment.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the scholarship still available in 2026?
The documented program was scheduled to end on November 17, 2023. The available announcement and Cyversity’s news archive do not establish a current 2026 application window, renewal or successor program involving United Airlines.
Readers should not assume that an old application page, membership listing or reposted press release represents an active opportunity. To verify a possible reopening, check Cyversity’s current announcements and confirm:
- The application deadline and cohort dates
- Whether membership must be active before applying
- The number and value of scholarships
- The training provider and exact certification
- Whether the exam fee covers retakes
- Technical prerequisites and completion deadlines
- Accessibility, mentoring and career-support provisions
The safest current description is: Cyversity and United Airlines announced a time-bounded cybersecurity-training scholarship cohort in 2023; a comparable 2026 opportunity has not been established by the cited materials.
Why the structure could be useful
The program’s design combined a broad GRC foundation with a technical specialization. That structure could suit people interested in audit, risk and compliance as well as those pursuing defensive operations, application security or cloud security.
Its online, on-demand format could make participation easier alongside work or school, but it also requires self-discipline and may offer less accountability than instructor-led training. The member-only requirement concentrates the opportunity within Cyversity’s community while limiting access for qualified people who are not members.
The announcement provides no enrollment, completion, exam-pass or employment data. Therefore, its impact should be described as a potential workforce-development benefit rather than a measured employment outcome.
Bottom line
The Cyversity–United Airlines initiative was a genuine 2023 cybersecurity-training scholarship for Cyversity members in good standing. It offered a required GRC phase, one of three specializations, online and simulation-based training, and a certification-exam fee. Its announced schedule ended in 2023, and the available materials do not confirm that applications or a successor program are active in 2026.
