Cyber Monday SSD Deals 2025: The Drives That Were Worth Buying

The strongest Cyber Monday 2025 SSD offers included a $170 Samsung 990 Pro 2TB, an $85 handheld-size Crucial P310 and a $230 Crucial X10 4TB. All prices are historical and expired.

Cyber Monday 2025 fell on December 1, and its SSD offers are now historical—not prices to expect or pay today. Among the documented US deals, the Samsung 990 Pro 2TB at about $170 was the strongest all-round internal pick, while the Crucial P310 1TB 2230 at $85 made sense for compatible handhelds. For portable storage, the Crucial X10 4TB at $230 stood out. This retrospective separates those offers by use case and explains the compatibility and price checks that mattered.

The strongest Cyber Monday 2025 SSD deals at a glance

Prices below were reported for US shoppers on or around December 1, 2025. They have expired; availability, seller, coupons, and membership terms varied by retailer, and the cited coverage does not establish those details for every offer. Price per terabyte is calculated from the reported price and nominal capacity.

Use case Drive and historical price Approx. price per TB Why it stood out Main caveat
Best overall internal SSD Samsung 990 Pro 2TB — about $170 About $85/TB High-performing PCIe 4.0 drive with useful capacity for a gaming PC. Not a Gen 5 drive; confirm the M.2 slot and heatsink fit.
Handheld upgrade Crucial P310 1TB 2230 — $85 About $85/TB Compact 2230 format for devices designed around that size. Not a drop-in replacement for a 2280 SSD.
Gen 5 value SK hynix Platinum P51 1TB — $120 About $120/TB A discounted PCIe 5.0 option for compatible systems. Requires Gen 5 support and appropriate cooling to realize its advantages.
Best portable capacity Crucial X10 4TB — $230 About $57.50/TB Large portable capacity; PCWorld highlighted its IP65 rating in its review context. Actual speed depends on the host port and cable.
Budget portable SSD Crucial X9 2TB — $110 About $55/TB Good capacity per dollar for ordinary backups and game libraries. Slower than the X10 and not the best fit for demanding sustained transfers.
Bulk archive, not an SSD Seagate Expansion Desktop 24TB HDD — $250 About $10.42/TB Very low cost per terabyte for large archives. A mechanical hard drive is slower and less resistant to shocks than an SSD.

The prices and product selections are drawn from PCWorld’s Cyber Monday 2025 SSD and storage roundup. The 990 Pro was also highlighted in TechRadar’s SSD deals coverage.

Which 1TB or 2TB SSD deal was best?

For a 1TB handheld drive: Crucial P310 2230

At $85, the Crucial P310 1TB was the standout when the device specifically accepts a 2230 M.2 NVMe drive. Its physical size—not a claim that it is the best universal 1TB SSD—is the reason it suits Steam Deck-class upgrades. Check the exact handheld model’s serviceability and SSD requirements before buying. A 2280 drive is longer and is not interchangeable.

For a general 1TB PC drive: compare Gen 4 and Gen 5

The Samsung 990 Pro 1TB was reported at $110, a premium PCIe 4.0 option. The SK hynix Platinum P51 1TB at $120 and WD_BLACK SN8100 1TB at $139.99 were Gen 5 alternatives. The P51 was the more compelling Gen 5 value among these listed prices, but neither Gen 5 model makes sense solely for its sequential-speed headline if the computer lacks a Gen 5 slot or the workload is ordinary gaming.

For most gaming PCs: Samsung 990 Pro 2TB

At about $170, the 2TB 990 Pro was the clearest general-purpose internal recommendation. Samsung lists peak sequential performance of up to 7,450MB/s read and 6,900MB/s write for this model; those are manufacturer specifications, not a promise of real-world performance in every computer. The drive uses PCIe 4.0. Its historical sale price worked out to about $85/TB.

Other reported 2TB choices included the SK hynix Platinum P51 at $210 and Samsung 9100 Pro with heatsink at $208.99. For portable storage, the Crucial X9 2TB was $110, Crucial X10 Pro 2TB $150, and Samsung T9 2TB $180. These products serve different purposes: an external SSD is not a substitute for an internal NVMe drive when the goal is an operating-system or internal game-library upgrade.

Gen 4 or Gen 5: which should you choose?

For most gaming builds, a good Gen 4 SSD is the more rational buy. Game loading, everyday desktop use, and downloads do not automatically benefit enough from a Gen 5 model to justify a price premium, extra heat, or a cooling complication. Gen 5 is easier to justify for large sequential transfers, demanding creator or professional workloads, or a recent system that already supports it and has suitable airflow.

Interface Best fit Check before buying
PCIe Gen 3 Everyday upgrades in older compatible systems. Confirm the slot accepts NVMe and check the system’s supported drive length.
PCIe Gen 4 Mainstream gaming and productivity; a strong performance/value balance. A Gen 4 drive can work in some newer or older slots, but it runs according to platform support.
PCIe Gen 5 Compatible high-end PCs and workloads involving heavy transfers. Verify Gen 5 support, heatsink clearance, and airflow; performance can be limited by the host.

The 2025 deals included Gen 5 models such as the SK hynix Platinum P51, WD_BLACK SN8100, Crucial T710, and Samsung 9100 Pro. Paying more for one was worthwhile only when the rest of the system and the workload could use it.

Which internal SSD fit each budget or workload?

Handhelds: choose the right physical size first

The P310 1TB 2230 at $85 was the documented handheld pick. Before opening a Steam Deck, ROG Ally, or another handheld, verify the exact model’s supported format, whether its storage is user-replaceable, and the manufacturer’s service guidance. A replacement may require cloning the existing drive or reinstalling the operating system. A heatsink or thick label can also interfere with tight internal clearance.

Large game libraries: compare capacity with drive design

The Crucial P310 4TB at $240 offered a relatively low total price for internal capacity. That can suit a large library, but capacity alone does not establish suitability for sustained professional writes. Check the exact SKU’s NAND configuration, endurance rating, warranty, and sustained-write behavior if the drive will handle long, repeated creative workloads.

High-end Gen 5 capacity

The Samsung 9100 Pro 4TB was reported at $370. It was a high-capacity Gen 5 option, but the absolute price, platform requirement, and cooling needs make it a specialist choice rather than a default gaming recommendation. Confirm the exact heatsink configuration fits the motherboard and case.

Which external SSD was the best deal?

Crucial X10 4TB: best all-round capacity pick

At $230, the X10 4TB combined substantial portable capacity with the strongest all-round value in the documented external SSD offers. PCWorld selected it as its preferred external SSD deal and noted an IP65 rating in its review context. Weather resistance does not mean it is waterproof in every situation, and the computer, port, and cable determine the speed a user actually gets.

Crucial X9 2TB: lower-cost everyday storage

The X9 2TB at $110 was a sensible option for ordinary backups, moving files, or storing a game library externally. It was less expensive than faster premium portable options, but not the best choice for sustained high-speed work.

Samsung T9 and Crucial X10 Pro: pay for speed only if the host supports it

The Samsung T9 1TB at $95 was a premium compact option; its 2TB version was $180. The Crucial X10 Pro 2TB was $150 and suited buyers prioritizing higher external performance. Both choices can be constrained by the computer’s USB capability. The T9’s faster USB mode requires a suitable host connection; a standard 10Gbps USB port will not deliver its maximum performance. The Lexar Professional Go with Hub 2TB at $190 was a niche deal for users who specifically needed its hub-oriented workflow.

USB-C is a connector, not a speed rating

An external SSD’s throughput is limited by the slowest part of the chain: the drive, enclosure, host port, cable, or computer. A USB-C plug alone does not tell you whether the connection is 10Gbps, 20Gbps, USB4, or Thunderbolt. Check the computer’s port specification and use a cable rated for the intended connection.

When a large HDD was the better storage deal

The Seagate Expansion Desktop 24TB HDD at $250 worked out to about $10.42/TB—far below the SSD examples above. It was a strong bulk-storage deal for archives that do not need fast access, but it is a mechanical drive, not an SSD: it is slower, less shock-resistant, and not an equivalent choice for portable use, operating systems, or games where fast loading matters. Keep a separate copy of important files; one external drive is not a complete backup strategy.

How to tell whether an SSD discount was real

A large percentage off a displayed “was” price does not prove that a drive is a bargain. PCWorld’s approach favored well-rated, popular models near historical lows; it treated roughly 15–20% off as meaningful and 30% or more as potentially excellent, depending on the product. Those are useful screening thresholds, not guarantees: compare the offer with recent prices at multiple reputable sellers and distinguish a normal street price from a manufacturer’s suggested price.

  • Compare the same capacity and exact model or SKU; similarly named drives may have different interfaces, heatsinks, or configurations.
  • Check recent price history or competing retailer prices rather than relying on the advertised percentage.
  • Calculate price per terabyte, but do not let it override performance, endurance, or compatibility needs.
  • Review warranty duration, TBW endurance, firmware-update support, seller identity, and return terms.
  • For marketplace listings, confirm who sells and ships the drive and whether the product is a retail model or an OEM part.

Compatibility checklist before ordering

  • Slot and protocol: Confirm the system has an available M.2 slot and whether it supports NVMe PCIe or M.2 SATA. These interfaces are not interchangeable in every slot.
  • Length and thickness: Check whether the device takes 2230 or 2280, and whether it accommodates a double-sided drive or an attached heatsink.
  • PCIe generation: Match expectations to the motherboard or laptop. A Gen 5 drive in a Gen 4-only system will not deliver Gen 5 speeds.
  • Cooling: A motherboard heatsink may be sufficient for an internal drive. An integrated heatsink can conflict with a motherboard cover or laptop chassis, while Gen 5 drives deserve particular attention to cooling.
  • Handheld serviceability: Confirm the exact model accepts a user-replaceable SSD and follow its service instructions before selecting a 2230 drive.
  • External connection: Check USB, USB4, or Thunderbolt support and the cable rating; the connector shape does not establish data rate.
  • Console installation: For PS5, consult Sony’s current M.2 SSD requirements and verify dimensions, heatsink clearance, and minimum sequential-read guidance for the exact drive. A PC benchmark or retailer’s “PS5” label alone does not prove compatibility. Sony’s requirements may change; confirm them at purchase time.

What to take from the 2025 offers

The clearest historical value choices were the Samsung 990 Pro 2TB for a general gaming PC, the 2230 Crucial P310 for a compatible handheld, and the Crucial X10 4TB for portable capacity. The Gen 5 deals made sense for buyers with matching hardware and workloads, while the 24TB Seagate deal was about inexpensive bulk storage rather than SSD performance. These December 2025 prices are expired; use them as context for evaluating future discounts, not as current offers.
