The Joint CSIR-UGC NET December 2025 exam was held on 18 December 2025; it is now a past exam, not an upcoming date. Life Sciences and Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences were scheduled for the morning shift. Chemical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences and Physical Sciences were scheduled for the afternoon shift.

CSIR UGC NET December 2025 schedule by subject

The National Testing Agency (NTA) schedule set both shifts on 18 December 2025. Each shift lasted 180 minutes.

Date Subject Shift Exam time Reporting time
18 December 2025 Life Sciences Shift 1 (morning) 09:00–12:00 07:00
18 December 2025 Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences Shift 1 (morning) 09:00–12:00 07:00
18 December 2025 Chemical Sciences Shift 2 (afternoon) 15:00–18:00 13:00
18 December 2025 Mathematical Sciences Shift 2 (afternoon) 15:00–18:00 13:00
18 December 2025 Physical Sciences Shift 2 (afternoon) 15:00–18:00 13:00

NTA lists the exam duration as 180 minutes. Its schedule gives Shift 1 as 09:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, with reporting at 07:00 a.m.; Shift 2 is 03:00 p.m. to 06:00 p.m., with reporting at 01:00 p.m. See the official NTA schedule and the NTA subject-and-shift notice.

Which subjects were in each shift?

  • Morning, Shift 1: Life Sciences; Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences.
  • Afternoon, Shift 2: Chemical Sciences; Mathematical Sciences; Physical Sciences.

All five subjects were scheduled for the same date. The subject-to-shift assignments come from NTA’s 8 December 2025 notice.

City-intimation slip versus admit card

NTA’s 8 December 2025 notice explained that the advance city-intimation slip told candidates the city where their examination centre would be located. It explicitly stated that the slip “is NOT the Admit Card for the Examination” and said the admit card would be issued separately. The notice is about the 2025 exam; a city slip from that cycle is not current admission documentation. For a later cycle, rely on that cycle’s official NTA notices.

What the exam determined

NTA describes the Joint CSIR-UGC NET as a computer-based test used to determine eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship and appointment as Assistant Professor; appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D.; or admission to Ph.D. only. The NTA exam information describes these eligibility outcomes.

How many candidates took the December 2025 exam?

In a score-declaration press release dated 30 January 2026, NTA reported 2,12,552 registered candidates and 1,54,080 candidates who appeared. The release also says the exam covered five subjects in two shifts across 220 cities. These are NTA’s published figures. See the NTA participation figures.
