Crypto.com CEO Kris Marszalek Reportedly Bought AI.com for $70 Million to Launch an AI Agent Service

Kris Marszalek, the co-founder and CEO of Crypto.com, reportedly bought the AI.com domain for $70 million in cryptocurrency and is using it to launch a separate consumer AI venture. The new service, ai.com, is presented as a beta platform for creating personal AI agents that can perform tasks across applications—not merely answer questions.

The price has been described by domain-industry and technology publications as the largest publicly disclosed domain sale. However, ai.com’s own launch announcement confirms the acquisition without stating the price, and public materials do not clearly establish whether Marszalek personally, Crypto.com, or another affiliated entity was the legal buyer.

What happened with the AI.com purchase?

Public reporting says Marszalek acquired AI.com in 2025, with The Block reporting that the transaction was completed in April 2025. The domain had reportedly been offered for $100 million in March of that year.

The $70 million figure was reported by the Financial Times and relayed by Domain Name Wire, TechCrunch, The Block, and CoinDesk. Domain Name Wire reported that broker Larry Fischer confirmed the amount and that payment was made in cryptocurrency. The available reporting does not identify which cryptocurrency was used.

  • Protect your signer: keep it in mint condition at all times with a bespoke Pod or Case to avoid scratches and everyday wear and tear.

The official ai.com launch announcement says Marszalek founded the venture and will lead both ai.com and Crypto.com as CEO. That establishes a close founder and leadership relationship, but it is not the same as proof that Crypto.com’s corporate funds paid for the domain.

Is AI.com really the most expensive domain ever?

The most defensible description is that it was the largest publicly disclosed domain sale. That qualification matters because private or poorly documented transactions may not be comparable.

Reported comparison points include:

  • Voice.com: $30 million in 2019.
  • CarInsurance.com: $49.7 million in 2010, depending on how domain transactions are classified and compared.
  • VacationRentals.com: $35 million in 2007.

At $70 million, AI.com is an unusually large branding investment. The domain is short, easy to remember, simple to say in advertising, and broad enough to support a general consumer AI product. Those are strategic advantages, not proof that the venture will produce a return or that the domain itself creates a technological advantage.

What ai.com is offering

ai.com launched around February 8, 2026, alongside a commercial shown during Super Bowl LX. Its homepage currently presents the service as a beta and invites users to claim a unique ai.com/username handle and launch an agent.

According to the company, users can create a private personal agent that is intended to:

  • Send messages.
  • Operate across applications.
  • Build projects.
  • Manage calendar-related tasks.
  • Potentially trade stocks.
  • Update online dating profiles.
  • Develop capabilities needed to complete certain tasks.

The company says users can move from signup to an agent in roughly 60 seconds. That is a launch claim, not an independently tested performance result. The public materials also do not establish how broadly these functions are available, which applications are supported, or whether financial actions are currently offered in every market.

What “autonomous AI agent” means

An AI agent is generally software that can use tools, access permitted applications, plan multiple steps, and execute actions on a user’s behalf. A conventional chatbot mainly responds with generated text; an agent is designed to do more of the work after receiving an instruction.

“Autonomous” does not mean human-level intelligence or independent consciousness. It usually means the system can complete a sequence of tasks with less continuous user intervention. A request such as “organize my schedule and send the necessary messages” may require the agent to inspect information, make decisions, call application tools, and report what it did.

That model introduces additional risks. An agent can misunderstand an instruction, use the wrong account, partially complete a workflow, repeat an action, or make a financial decision that the user did not intend. References in ai.com’s launch materials to accelerating artificial general intelligence describe the venture’s mission and ambition; they are not evidence that the product has achieved AGI.

Privacy, security, and permissions

ai.com says its agents operate in dedicated secure environments, with segregated and encrypted user data, user-specific keys, and capability limits based on permissions granted by the user. The company describes the service as permission-based and intended to remain under user control.

Those are company claims. Before connecting email, financial accounts, calendars, or social profiles, users should look for practical details in the service’s privacy policy and terms, including:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • How long prompts, files, credentials, and activity logs are retained.
  • Whether data is used to train models or shared with model providers.
  • Which permissions an agent receives and how they can be revoked.
  • Whether sensitive actions require human confirmation.
  • How account recovery and deletion work.
  • Who is responsible if an agent sends a message, changes an account, or executes a transaction incorrectly.
  • Whether financial features are restricted by jurisdiction, identity checks, or regulation.

The launch announcement alone does not provide enough information to independently validate the implementation of these safeguards.

Is ai.com free?

The company says users can get started for free, while paid subscription tiers provide enhanced capabilities and more input tokens. The launch announcement does not state subscription prices, and the accessible homepage does not provide a complete verified pricing schedule.

“Free to start” should not be read as “every feature is free.” Advanced actions, higher usage limits, or additional tokens may require a paid plan. Prospective users should check the live signup flow and terms before committing payment details.

How is ai.com connected to Crypto.com?

The relationship is more substantial than a crypto executive simply buying an unrelated technology brand. Crypto.com had already published work on AI agents and blockchain use cases.

Its research describes agents that can handle blockchain data queries, wallet management, transfers, and basic smart-contract interactions such as swaps. Crypto.com also publishes an AI Agent Service API and an Exchange AI Agent Skill for exchange market data and trading functionality.

That background could provide useful infrastructure or expertise for a consumer agent platform. But the public materials do not fully disclose ai.com’s technical architecture or prove that its consumer service is simply a front end for Crypto.com’s AI Agent SDK. Nor do they establish that users need a Crypto.com account or cryptocurrency to use ordinary ai.com features.

Does ai.com require cryptocurrency?

No available source says that consumers must own cryptocurrency to sign up for or use ai.com. The reported crypto payment concerns the domain acquisition, not the product’s ordinary billing or user requirements.

There is also no verified evidence that:

  • CRO is required for subscriptions.
  • Agents transact on-chain by default.
  • Crypto.com accounts are mandatory.
  • Every user can access stock trading or crypto trading features.

The service is marketed as a general-purpose consumer AI platform, although its founder’s crypto background and Crypto.com’s existing agent tools may support future financial or blockchain integrations.

What happened during the launch?

The Super Bowl LX advertisement was designed to give ai.com immediate mass-market exposure. Secondary reports said the website experienced an outage or severe availability problems shortly after the commercial drove traffic to the service.

TechSpot reported that the site went down, while Tom’s Hardware reported that Marszalek attributed the disruption to external factors and said the company had prepared for scale but not the volume it experienced.

Without a primary technical postmortem, the precise cause should remain qualified. Still, the incident is relevant: advertising reach, website availability, infrastructure capacity, and reliable agent execution are separate measures of a product’s readiness.

What the $70 million bet does—and does not—prove

What it suggests What it does not prove
Marszalek views a broad consumer AI brand as strategically valuable. That ai.com has superior models or agent performance.
The short domain may reduce friction in television, radio, and word-of-mouth marketing. That the venture will generate enough revenue to justify the purchase.
Crypto.com’s existing AI and blockchain work may provide relevant experience. That ai.com and Crypto.com use identical infrastructure.
The venture has ambitious plans for task-performing software. That advertised financial or cross-application functions are broadly available or independently verified.

What remains unclear

Readers should treat ai.com as a high-profile early-stage product launch rather than a fully documented platform. Important open questions include:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • The legal identity of the entity that purchased the domain.
  • The exact cryptocurrency used for the transaction.
  • Complete subscription pricing and usage limits.
  • The models, infrastructure, and third-party applications behind the service.
  • Independent performance and safety testing.
  • Geographic availability and age restrictions.
  • Regulatory treatment of stock trading or other financial actions.
  • Whether Crypto.com customers receive special access or deeper integration.
  • User numbers, revenue, retention, and the commercial return on the domain investment.

Anyone considering the service should start with narrow, low-risk tasks, review permissions carefully, enable confirmation controls where available, and avoid giving an untested agent unrestricted access to money or sensitive accounts.
