What comes with Uncle Herschel’s Favorite?
In its August 2025 announcement, Cracker Barrel described the platter as two eggs cooked to order with a choice of Sugar Cured Ham, Country Ham, grilled or fried catfish fillet, Crispy Tender Dippers, or an upgraded premium New York Strip Steak. The announced platter also came with Hashbrown Casserole or Fried Apples, Buttermilk Biscuits, Sawmill Gravy, and Grits.

The current breakfast menu describes it as two eggs, a choice of breakfast meat, biscuits and gravy, coarse ground grits, and one classic side. Its listed meat options include both ham choices, Crispy Tender Dippers, fried or grilled U.S. farm-raised catfish, and New York strip steak as an additional option. Because the wording and side description differ between the 2025 announcement and the current menu, check the menu for your location for the options currently offered.
Which meat options are listed, and what are their calories?
Cracker Barrel’s current breakfast PDF lists these calorie figures for individual components. They are not calorie totals for the complete customizable platter.

These figures are from Cracker Barrel’s menu PDF, which bears a 2026 copyright notice and was accessed October 11, 2026. The PDF also uses 2,000 calories per day for general nutrition advice and notes that individual needs vary. It does not give one total for every platter configuration; a total would depend on the selected meat, side, and other choices.
When did the dish return?
- August 19, 2025: Cracker Barrel announced the platter’s return as part of its fall menu, calling it “Back by popular demand.” The company also promoted New York Strip Steak as an upgrade available “for the first time ever.”
- August 22, 2025: Abigail Wilt’s article was published by AOL as a syndicated version of a Southern Living article about the return.
- October 11, 2026: The official breakfast menu still listed the dish, and Cracker Barrel’s food page described the Favorite Breakfast platter as having a permanent place on the menu.
Southern Living’s account, as carried by AOL, says Uncle Herschel was Dan Evins’ real-life uncle and the dish’s namesake, and that the platter had been a menu fixture since 1985 before disappearing around 2022. Those historical details are reported by Southern Living, rather than stated in Cracker Barrel’s 2025 announcement.

What “fan-favorite” and “popular demand” establish
Cracker Barrel used “fan-favorite” and “Back by popular demand” in its announcement, but the sources do not provide a customer survey, sales figure, or other quantified measure of popularity. The AOL-hosted Southern Living article included a Reddit comment asking, “Why did the best thing on the menu leave?” That comment illustrates one diner’s reaction; it is not evidence of how customers broadly felt.

As of October 11, 2026, Cracker Barrel’s official breakfast menu PDF lists Uncle Herschel’s Favorite, and its food page says the Favorite Breakfast platter has “earned a permanent place on the menu.” That describes the company’s current menu positioning, not a guarantee that every location has every option available at all times. Check your local menu or ordering page for current availability and price; the sources do not establish a nationwide price.
