How the transfer chain unfolded
- Arsenal signed Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting. On 26 July 2025, BBC Sport reported a deal worth up to €73 million (£64 million), comprising a €63 million initial fee and €10 million in add-ons. Gyökeres said of his decision: “I just felt it was the right club for me,” BBC Sport reported.
- Sporting signed Luis Suárez from Almería. Two days later, AS described Gyökeres’s departure as opening the way for Sporting’s move for Suárez. AS reported a fee of €20 million plus €5–7 million in bonuses.
The Suárez fee was also reported differently by Diario de Almería, which put it at approximately €22.16 million fixed plus €5.26 million in variables. These are outlet-reported breakdowns, not a single uncontested total.
Which club has a reported financial interest in Suárez?
AS reported on 7 April 2026 that Almería had secured 10% of a future capital gain in its deal with Sporting. A future capital gain generally means the profit on a later transfer, rather than 10% of every euro in a future fee; the exact contract terms and calculation are not published in the cited report. AS identifies Almería as the club with this reported interest.
A sell-on clause is a contractual provision agreed between clubs. Its terms are not proved simply because a player previously represented a club. Sporting’s official profile lists Watford in Suárez’s career history, and Almería confirmed it exercised its purchase option after his loan from Marseille. Neither fact establishes that Watford negotiated a share of a later transfer.
