The $20 is a Digital Costco Shop Card offered to qualifying new members who join online and meet the promotion’s conditions. Costco’s current page does not identify this as a Black Friday 2026 deal.
What the $20 Costco offer actually includes
Costco’s current U.S. join page lists Gold Star at $65 per year plus applicable sales tax and advertises a $20 Digital Costco Shop Card for qualifying new members. The Shop Card is an incentive, not a discount that reduces the membership fee to $20. Costco’s page is the best place to confirm the live offer and its terms before signing up.
The offer is online-only. To qualify, you must be a new member and must not have held a Costco membership in any capacity—primary, household, or affiliate—during the prior 18 months. You must also set up membership auto-renewal during signup using a Visa credit or debit card, or a Mastercard debit card. Terms apply.
Is this a Black Friday 2026 deal?
Costco’s current join page advertises a new-member promotion, but does not call it a Black Friday offer or give it a holiday promotion window. A third-party Black Friday 2026 preview reported in September 2026 that the $20 Digital Shop Card offer was available and could change before Black Friday; it does not establish a separate or final Black Friday promotion. Check Costco’s official page for the offer in effect when you join.

What Gold Star membership provides
Gold Star is Costco’s personal-use membership. It allows shopping at Costco locations worldwide and at Costco.com. The one-year membership must be renewed annually and includes one additional household card at no extra charge. Costco says the household card may be issued to a spouse, domestic partner, or immediate family member who is over 16 and lives at the same address. See Costco Customer Service’s Gold Star description for the membership details.
Gold Star or Executive: compare the annual fee with eligible spending
Costco lists Executive membership at $130 per year plus applicable sales tax, compared with $65 for Gold Star. Executive includes a household card and a 2% reward on qualified Costco purchases, subject to the reward terms. Not every purchase necessarily qualifies. The relevant comparison is the $65 difference in annual fees against your own eligible spending and the conditions governing the reward.
