Costco’s current page does not establish that this is a Black Friday 2026 deal.
What the Costco Gold Star offer includes
Costco lists U.S. Gold Star membership at $65 per year, plus applicable tax. Its join page currently advertises a $20 Digital Costco Shop Card for qualifying new members who enroll in auto renewal at sign-up. The card is emailed after successful enrollment and sign-up. Costco’s join page sets out the offer and its conditions.
That makes the offer a $65 upfront purchase with $20 in Costco store credit—not a $45 checkout price. Calling it “almost free” can be reasonable only as shorthand for an effective $45 cost after using the entire Shop Card toward a purchase you would otherwise make. The credit is not cash and does not reduce the amount charged for membership.
Who qualifies for the $20 Shop Card
The offer is for new members and people who have not held a Costco membership in any capacity—Primary, Household, or Affiliate—in the prior 18 months. Costco’s terms require the customer to provide a valid email address and enroll in auto renewal at the time of sign-up; the incentive is not owed if auto renewal is not selected then. Costco says the Shop Card is sent by email after successful sign-up and enrollment. Check the live terms before joining because offer details and availability can change.

Is this a Black Friday 2026 deal?
The currently surfaced Costco join page supports a general new-member promotion, not a verified Black Friday 2026 campaign. It does not establish holiday dates or confirm that the offer is limited to Black Friday. Kiplinger reported a similar $65 Gold Star membership and $20 Digital Shop Card offer through StackSocial in its 2025 Cyber Monday coverage, but that is historical context, not proof of a current StackSocial offer or a 2026 Black Friday promotion.

Costco’s 2025 Form 10-K lists Gold Star at $65 and the additional Executive upgrade at $65. Executive’s 2% reward applies to qualified purchases, not everything a member buys; Costco says the reward is generally capped at $1,250. Consider the upgrade only if your expected qualified spending and use of Executive benefits justify the extra annual fee. Costco’s SEC filings contain the company’s membership and reward disclosures. Costco’s join page lists additional Executive benefits, including Executive shopping hours, monthly credit on qualifying delivery orders, and service benefits; review its current terms for details.

- Confirm the $20 Shop Card offer is still shown on Costco’s join page and read its current terms.
- Check that you have not been a member in any capacity during the previous 18 months.
- Be ready to enroll in auto renewal using a Visa credit or debit card, or a Mastercard debit card, at sign-up; Costco’s offer terms specify these payment methods.
- Decide whether you can use the Shop Card before renewal. If you will not use its full value, the effective cost is higher than $45.
- Budget for the full $65 annual charge plus applicable tax at sign-up.
