Corteva competes across seeds and traits, crop protection, and digital agriculture—not in one directly comparable product category. Its closest named rivals include BASF, Bayer, FMC, Syngenta and ChemChina, alongside generic crop-protection sellers and regional seed companies. The useful comparison is therefore about business mix, crop and geographic exposure, competitive pressures and risk, rather than declaring one company the overall winner.

What Corteva sells

Corteva’s portfolio includes seed brands and traits, crop-protection products, seed treatments, and digital solutions for precision agriculture. Its crop-protection categories include herbicides, fungicides and insecticides. The company’s products and services overview describes the broader portfolio; its U.S. products page lists seeds and traits, crop protection, digital solutions and seed treatments.

These categories do not imply that every product or brand is sold everywhere. Availability and approvals depend on the country, crop and applicable regulations. A comparison should be made for the specific market and use a farmer or investor has in mind.

Who Corteva competes with—and how to compare them

Corteva’s 2025 Form 10-K names BASF, Bayer, FMC, Syngenta and ChemChina among its key competitors. It also identifies generic crop-protection chemical sellers and regional seed companies. The filing describes competition in seed germplasm, trait technologies and crop protection, so these companies are not interchangeable peers in every segment. See Corteva’s 2025 Form 10-K for its description of the competitive landscape.

#1 Best Overall
Comparison area What to examine
Seeds and traits Crop coverage, germplasm, trait technologies, and the role of owned versus licensed intellectual property.
Crop protection Herbicide, fungicide, insecticide and seed-treatment offerings, and whether relevant products are registered for the crop and country.
Geography and crop exposure Where each company sells and which crops and growing conditions shape demand; product presence in one country does not establish availability elsewhere.
Digital agriculture Whether the business offers precision-agriculture tools alongside physical inputs, and how those offerings fit the comparison being made.
Competitive position Price, quality, cost competitiveness, innovation and access to proprietary or licensed technology.
Risk Regulatory requirements, weather sensitivity, product development and corporate structure.

The 10-K identifies competitor categories and names; it does not establish a like-for-like ranking of the companies’ market shares, product performance or financial results. Nor should corporate names in a filing automatically be treated as a current map of ownership or organization: confirm the relevant company structure at the time of comparison.

What the available financial figures say about Corteva

Corteva’s investor-relations materials report 2025 net sales of $17.4 billion and operating EBITDA of $3.8 billion. The company also reports $1.5 billion returned to shareholders, approximately 22,000 employees, operations in approximately 110 countries and approximately 120 R&D facilities. These are Corteva-reported figures for 2025, not a standardized peer comparison; definitions and reporting periods may differ across companies. The figures are available through Corteva Investor Relations.

Scale alone does not show which competitor is stronger in a particular seed, trait or chemical market. To compare financial performance, use equivalent periods and definitions for each company, and separate business segments where their product mixes differ.

Risks that shape the comparison

Competition, intellectual property and innovation

Corteva says competition is intense and may increase. It competes on germplasm and trait leadership, price, quality and cost competitiveness. Its intellectual-property estate is valuable, while some products and processes also depend on licensed traits and technology. This makes innovation and access to technology relevant alongside the products a company currently sells.

Corteva’s crop-protection page says roughly one in 100,000 potential molecules makes it through testing to become a Corteva product and that bringing innovations to market takes an average of 12 years. These are company statements; the page excerpt does not provide an independent study, publication date or calculation method. Treat them as context about Corteva’s description of its development process, not as independently verified industry-wide benchmarks. See Corteva Crop Protection Products.

Regulation differs by country

Seed and crop-protection products face jurisdiction-specific approval procedures and environmental requirements. Corteva’s 2025 Form 10-K says global regulatory processes are becoming more complex, involving more testing, longer timelines that are difficult to predict, and higher development and maintenance costs. Pesticide registrations and rules governing genetically modified crops are not uniform worldwide, so a product’s status in one market should not be assumed in another.

Weather and climate affect both supply and demand

Corteva’s climate-risk report says weather can affect seed quality, volume and cost; customers’ ability to use products and seed; demand and product mix; and the company’s sales and earnings. It also identifies climate-resilient seeds and crop-protection solutions as opportunities. These are Corteva’s own risk assessment and strategy, not an independent forecast. The company describes them in its 2025 climate impact, risk and opportunity management report.

Corporate structure may change

Corteva’s 2025 annual-report material describes a plan to separate its Seed and Crop Protection businesses into two standalone public companies, with a separation expected in Q4 2026. That is a forward-looking plan, not confirmation that the separation has occurred. For a current investment comparison, check for a subsequent company filing. See the Corteva 2025 Annual Report.

How to make a useful Corteva-versus-peer assessment

  1. Define the question. Specify whether the comparison concerns seeds and traits, crop protection, digital agriculture, or the company as an investment. A broad portfolio comparison cannot answer a product-specific question by itself.
  2. Set the market. Identify the country, crop and relevant growing conditions. Check local product availability and approvals rather than assuming a global portfolio is sold in every market.
  3. Compare equivalent offerings. For seeds, examine crop coverage and traits; for crop protection, compare the relevant product categories and registered uses. Include digital tools only when they matter to the decision.
  4. Assess competitive factors and risks. Consider price, quality, costs, innovation and technology access alongside regulation and weather exposure.
  5. For financial comparisons, align the evidence. Use the same reporting period and comparable definitions, and account for differences in business mix and corporate structure.

This approach avoids treating a diversified agricultural-science portfolio as a simple product ranking. The best comparison depends on the market and decision: a farmer evaluating a specific input needs country- and crop-level information, while an investor needs comparable segment and financial disclosures.
