Hilton led both Fortune’s U.S. 100 Best Companies to Work For and Great Place To Work’s global list, while Bain & Company topped Glassdoor’s U.S. large-company ranking. The results differ because the lists cover different workforces and measure different things. Treat a ranking as a useful signal—not a promise that every team offers the same experience.
Which companies ranked highly for workplace culture in 2025?
Several employers appeared near the top of major workplace lists, but the leaders were not identical. Fortune’s U.S. list and Great Place To Work’s global list both placed Hilton first; Glassdoor’s U.S. large-company list placed Bain & Company first.
| Ranking | Scope and evidence | 2025 leaders |
|---|---|---|
| Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For | United States; eligible employers had at least 1,000 U.S. employees and could not be government agencies. Placement is based on employee survey results, with company programs and essay responses used for context. | Hilton Worldwide Holdings, Synchrony, Cisco Systems, American Express, Nvidia |
| Fortune World’s Best Workplaces | Global; eligible companies had at least 5,000 employees worldwide and appeared on at least five regional Best Workplaces lists during 2024 or early 2025. Employee feedback is considered alongside company programs and strategy. | Hilton, DHL Express, Cisco, Accenture, Marriott International |
| Glassdoor Best Places to Work, large U.S. companies | United States; companies needed at least 1,000 employees and at least 75 ratings in the measured attributes. Results use employee reviews submitted from October 17, 2023, through October 16, 2024. | Bain & Company (4.6/5), Crew Carwash (4.6/5), In-N-Out Burger (4.5/5) |
Glassdoor also reported 4.5/5 ratings for Nvidia, Eli Lilly, and Microsoft. Those scores describe the 2025 list and its stated review window; they are not a guarantee of current conditions or an individual employee’s experience.
For the Fortune U.S. list, Great Place To Work says its preceding survey year covered companies employing more than 8.4 million people and gathered more than 1.3 million responses. More than 670,000 responses came from employees at companies eligible for the 2025 list. Its global research covered more than 9 million employee responses and workplace programs affecting over 25 million workers worldwide.

What does a strong company culture mean?
Culture is not simply a generous perk package or an office with an appealing social scene. The major workplace lists examined here ask, in different ways, whether employees experience trust, respect, fairness, support, meaningful work, pride, and connection with colleagues.
Great Place To Work’s Trust Index focuses on behaviors associated with trust in management, connection with colleagues, and loyalty to the company. Its global survey asks employees to rate 60 statements on a five-point scale and answer two open-ended questions. Glassdoor includes culture and values among a broader set of attributes, alongside compensation and benefits, career opportunities, diversity and inclusion, senior management, work-life balance, recommendations to friends, and outlook on the business.
These measures offer clues about how work feels in an organization, but no single score captures every aspect of a job. A high overall rating can coexist with meaningful differences between roles, locations, managers, or employee groups.
Why the rankings produce different winners
“Best” depends on who is eligible, whose views are counted, which period is covered, and what the ranking rewards. Hilton’s top placement on two lists is notable, but it does not make those lists interchangeable with Glassdoor’s ranking.
Rank #3
- Geography and workforce: Fortune’s 100 Best list is U.S.-focused, while Fortune World’s Best Workplaces evaluates multinational employers and their presence across countries. Glassdoor’s cited category covers large U.S. companies.
- Evidence source: Great Place To Work uses employee survey responses; Glassdoor uses employee reviews submitted to its platform. Participation and eligibility rules shape who is represented.
- What is measured: Great Place To Work emphasizes trust and employee experience. Glassdoor combines culture-related views with ratings of other workplace dimensions.
- Lookback period: Glassdoor’s 2025 results draw on reviews submitted during its October 17, 2023–October 16, 2024 window. A ranking can reflect a period that predates a later change in leadership, policy, or business conditions.
- Consistency: Great Place To Work says it considers how responses vary across demographic groups and roles. An organization-wide result is more informative when favorable experiences are broadly shared rather than concentrated in a few groups.
Why TIME’s 2025 company ranking is not a culture-only list
TIME and Statista’s World’s Best Companies ranking includes employee satisfaction, but it also evaluates revenue growth and sustainability transparency. The three dimensions are equally weighted. Employee satisfaction drew on more than 200,000 evaluations globally; growth used company revenue data for the preceding three years; and the sustainability assessment used standardized and researched indicators.
That makes the list relevant to a broader question about company performance, not a direct substitute for a workplace-culture ranking. A strong overall placement should not be read as proof that employees rate the culture highly by itself.
How job seekers can use workplace rankings
A ranking can help identify employers worth investigating, but it is only an organization-level signal. Before making a career decision, look for evidence that matches the job you are considering.
- Check the list’s scope. Confirm whether it covers the country, company size, industry, and period relevant to you.
- Compare the measures. A survey about trust, a public-review score, and a ranking that includes financial growth answer different questions.
- Look for role- and location-specific evidence. Seek recent reviews or other credible information from people in the team, occupation, or office you are considering. Ask interviewers how success is evaluated, how managers give feedback, and how workloads are handled.
- Test for consistency. Look for recurring patterns across multiple accounts rather than relying on one glowing review or one negative post. Differences by function, manager, and location may matter more than the employer’s overall rank.
- Assess fit against your priorities. Decide which factors matter most to you—such as fair management, advancement, compensation, flexibility, or meaningful work—and investigate those directly.
What the 2025 lists can—and cannot—tell you
The rankings show that employees submitted positive feedback under each publisher’s particular eligibility and scoring rules. They do not establish that every employee at a listed company has the same experience, that workplace culture caused business success, or that a top-ranked employer will suit a particular job seeker. Their strongest use is as a starting point for more specific questions about the role, team, manager, and location.
