Coinflation’s Android app is presented as a set of precious-metal and coin melt-value calculators—not as a complete appraisal tool for collectible coins. Its listed calculators and price-update features may be useful for quick metal estimates, but Google Play reviewers reported interface problems in mid-2026, and the app’s own privacy disclosure deserves a look before installation.
What the Coinflation app does
The Google Play listing describes four calculators: U.S. silver coins, base-metal coins, gold scrap, and silver scrap. The silver scrap calculator is listed for .999, .925 sterling, and .900 silver. The gold and silver scrap tools accept multiple weight units. These are features claimed in the store listing; they have not been independently tested here. See the Coinflation Google Play listing.
The listing also says gold and silver prices update every minute and that the app offers a homescreen widget. Those features could make repeat checks more convenient, though their operation and update timing have not been independently verified.
Coinflation’s About page describes the site’s focus as tracking the metal value in currency and says its live metals-price feature uses the same feed as Certified Coin Exchange. That stated focus is a useful guide to what the app is for: estimating metal value, rather than determining a coin’s full market value.

Does Coinflation tell you what a coin is worth?
It can help estimate melt value: the value of a coin’s precious-metal content, based on its metal and weight and the applicable metal price. That is not the same as a collectible-coin appraisal. A metal-content calculation by itself does not establish a coin’s condition, rarity, authenticity, or what buyers may pay for it.
Use the app’s result as one input when considering a coin with precious-metal content, not as a stand-alone selling price or valuation. Coins whose appeal depends on rarity, grade, or collector demand may be worth more—or, depending on the coin and circumstances, trade differently—than a simple melt calculation suggests.

Pros of the Coinflation app
- Several related calculators in one app. The listing combines U.S. silver-coin and base-metal calculators with gold- and silver-scrap calculators.
- Scrap tools accept multiple weight units. The listing describes support for multiple units, which may be useful when a user’s weight measurement is not in the unit they first expect.
- Convenience features are listed. The claimed once-per-minute metals-price updates and homescreen widget could help people who check melt values regularly.
- The purpose is relatively clear. Coinflation’s site focuses on metal value in currency, so the app’s calculators have a defined use rather than promising a complete coin appraisal.

Recent users reported Android layout problems
Google Play reviews from July and August 2026 reported that, after an update, screen layout or navigation controls obscured the Calculate button or other content. This is a meaningful usability concern, but it does not establish that every device is affected. The available listing information does not show which configurations reproduce the issue or whether PCGS has fixed it.
The listing’s observed rating snapshot was 2.2 stars from 504 reviews; its phone section separately showed 2.3 stars across 470 reviews. Google Play ratings and counts can change and may vary by region. These figures were observed on October 8, 2026, and should be treated as a dated snapshot, not a permanent score.

Google Play’s developer-provided data-safety information says the app may collect app activity, app information and performance, and device or other IDs. It also says no data is shared with third parties, data is encrypted in transit, and data cannot be deleted. These statements are the developer’s disclosure, not an independent privacy audit. Review the current Google Play listing and Coinflation’s disclaimer and privacy page for the information available before deciding whether to install it.

The app may suit someone who wants a quick estimate of precious-metal content in coins or scrap and is comfortable checking whether the controls work on their own Android device. It is less suitable as the only basis for pricing a collectible coin, since a melt-value tool does not resolve condition, rarity, authenticity, or collector demand.

If you use a scrap calculator, a digital gram scale for coins can supply the weight input the calculation needs. A scale measures weight; it does not confirm a coin’s authenticity or determine its collectible value.
