Coco’s Restaurant in South Perth announced on January 3, 2025, that it would close on January 19 because it could not extend its lease. The date has passed: later reporting says The Meat & Wine Co opened at the former Coco’s site in December 2025.
When did Coco’s Restaurant close?
Coco’s named January 19, 2025, as its final day. PerthNow reported the announcement on January 3, 2025, describing the restaurant’s Facebook post as calling the closure an “end of an era.” The report said the restaurant had operated for more than 35 years.
Why did Coco’s close?
The restaurant said it could not extend its lease. PerthNow quoted its announcement: “As we are unable to extend our lease it is with heavy heart that we will be closing the business.” The available reporting does not disclose the lease’s contractual terms or establish who was responsible for the outcome.
A 2016 City of South Perth council record lists Coco’s among the restaurant tenancies in the South Perth Esplanade site context. It provides historical location context, not details of the lease that ended in 2025.

What did Coco’s tell customers about bookings and vouchers?
In an email to customers quoted by PerthNow, Coco’s said it would refund deposits for bookings scheduled after January 19, 2025, and hoped to complete the refunds within two weeks. The restaurant also said vouchers could be used through January 18 or refunded. Those were arrangements announced at the time; the dates have passed, so they should not be treated as current offers.
What happened to the former restaurant site?
The West Australian reported that The Meat & Wine Co opened at the former Coco’s site in December 2025. It is a separate business, not a continuation of Coco’s. Check The Meat & Wine Co’s current official information for opening hours and bookings.

Coco’s said Vintage Wine Sales would continue and that premium wine stock would be liquidated. That was the plan stated in the January 2025 announcement; it does not confirm the current status of the wine business or stock.
