Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling initiated the voluntary recall on March 6, 2025; the FDA classified it as Class II on March 24. To check a can, compare its UPC, date code and time stamp with the identifiers below.
Which Coca-Cola cans were recalled?
The reported recall covered 864 12-count packs of Coca-Cola Original Taste, or 10,368 individual cans (864 packs × 12 cans). The cans were reported as produced at Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling’s Milwaukee, Wisconsin, facility and distributed in Illinois and Wisconsin. The reported scope is this product and batch; it does not establish a recall of other Coca-Cola varieties, sizes or regions. ABC News, 2025 reported the pack count and distribution; FOX Business, 2025 also reported 10,368 cans.
How to check your can or 12-pack
Compare all the identifiers available on your product. UPCs differ between an individual can and its 12-pack; the date code and time stamp further narrow the match.
| What to check | Reported identifier |
|---|---|
| Product and size | Coca-Cola Original Taste, 12-ounce cans |
| Can UPC | 0 49000-00634 6 |
| 12-pack UPC | 0 49000-02890 4 |
| Date code | SEP2925MDA |
| Time stamp | 1100-1253 |
| Authority labeling | “Canned Under Authority of the Coca-Cola Company, Atlanta, GA 30313.” |
These identifiers and the Atlanta authority labeling were reported by ABC News. A match to the reported batch identifiers is more meaningful than the brand name alone.

What was the concern, and what does Class II mean?
The stated concern was possible foreign material, identified in reporting as plastic. The available reporting does not explain how it may have entered the cans or estimate the chance that any particular can contained it. A Class II designation is a hazard category, not a finding that every can was contaminated.
The FDA defines Class II this way: “Class II is a situation in which use of, or exposure to, a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.” U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Enforcement Report definitions.

Why are there two dates?
March 6, 2025, is the reported date Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling initiated the voluntary recall; March 24, 2025, is the date the FDA designated it Class II. FDA guidance explains that classifications are often assigned after the company supplies information needed for the agency’s public-health risk assessment. An enforcement report classification should not be read as expanding or changing the firm’s voluntary warning. ABC News, 2025; FDA enforcement-report guidance.

The reported identifiers can help determine whether a product matches the recalled batch, but the available FDA event page did not expose event-specific consumer remedy instructions or status. No disposal, return or refund direction is established here. For instructions specific to a matching product, check with the FDA or Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling; do not infer a remedy from the Class II label alone.
