Which ’80s soda was Coca-Cola bringing back?
It was Diet Cherry Coke, first introduced in 1986 according to a June 23, 2025 report by AOL, republished from Simply Recipes. For the reported revival, the drink was presented as Retro Diet Cherry Coke in retro packaging. The report described the return as limited-time.
The article’s account of the product’s history says Cherry Coke Zero appeared in 2005, Diet Coke Feisty Cherry replaced Diet Cherry Coke in 2018, and Diet Cherry Coke disappeared in 2020. Where was the 2025 release expected?
The report named the Kroger family of stores and said the soda was expected to reach stores beginning in mid-July 2025. Examples included Ralphs, King Soopers, Mariano’s, and QFC. That was the announced retail plan, not confirmation of current stock or availability outside those retailers.

Is Diet Cherry Coke back in stores now?
The June 2025 report does not establish whether Retro Diet Cherry Coke is available now. Coca-Cola’s spokesperson reportedly did not confirm how long the limited-time release would last, and the source is not a current inventory notice. Check local Kroger-family store listings or contact a nearby store before making a trip; a past launch announcement does not show that a product remains on shelves.
How does it differ from other cherry colas?
The report distinguishes Diet Cherry Coke from Cherry Coke Zero and Diet Coke Feisty Cherry by name and chronology. It does not provide ingredient, nutrition, or taste comparisons, so it cannot establish whether their formulations or flavors are equivalent.
