Bailey Brewing Co took over the Dunsborough site, according to The Crafty Pint’s 20 May 2024 report. The report said Bailey planned to add the venue to its group and transition it from the Clancy’s name to the Bailey brand.
When did the sale happen, and did the pub close?
PerthNow reported on 9 May 2024 that the venue had been sold. The outgoing owners had announced their decision on Facebook the previous Monday evening and said they planned to be “packing the boat” on 24 May. That marked the end of the Clancy’s team’s tenure; the reporting described a planned brand transition, not a permanent closure of the site.
The owners described their time at the venue as “nearly 15 years.” The Australian Business Register records the trading name “CLANCY’S FISH PUB DUNSBOROUGH” from 7 December 2011 under the Dunsborough Hospitality Services Trust. Why did the owners sell?
Clancy’s brand ambassador Tom Fisher told PerthNow that buyers had approached the owners and they decided to sell after considering the offer. He cited the distance from their home base and plans for new projects: “The only reason we sort of moved is to look at some new projects and the tyranny of distance a little from our home base.” These were Fisher’s stated reasons, not independently established details of the transaction. What made the Dunsborough venue significant locally?
PerthNow described the Dunsborough pub as one of four Clancy’s venues and the group’s only regional Western Australian site. Sunday live music was part of its identity; the outgoing owners also referred to gigs, fundraisers, concerts, meals and community ties. In their farewell statement, the owners said: “After nearly 15 years of spreading the Clancy’s gospel of ‘fish, beer, wine, music and fun’, the fish pub team have decided to call it a day at our beautiful pub by the Cape,” as quoted by PerthNow.
