There is no confirmed public figure for Chuba Akpom’s wages at either AFC Ajax or Middlesbrough. SalarySport lists him at £27,000 a week for both clubs, while SalaryLeaks estimates his Ajax pay at €31,000 a week for 2023–24. These are database estimates, not verified contract terms, so the available figures do not establish that he earned more or less after moving to Ajax.
What Ajax officially disclosed about Akpom’s contract
When Ajax announced Akpom’s transfer from Middlesbrough on 16 August 2023, the club confirmed a contract through 30 June 2028 and a transfer fee of €12.3 million, potentially rising to €14.3 million with variables. It did not disclose his salary. The announcement said: “The 27-year-old Brit signed a contract that will run until June 30, 2028.” AFC Ajax’s announcement confirms the contract duration, not the wages.
How the published wage estimates compare
| Source and period | Reported estimate | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| SalarySport, Middlesbrough 2023 entry | £27,000 per week (£1,404,000 annually) | SalarySport’s database estimate; the page does not provide a primary-source basis for the figure. SalarySport |
| SalarySport, Ajax 2024 entry | £27,000 per week (£1,404,000 annually) | The same estimate appears in SalarySport’s Ajax entry; it is not an official club figure. SalarySport |
| SalaryLeaks, Ajax 2023–24 squad estimate | €31,000 per week (€1.7 million annually) | SalaryLeaks says its estimates are compiled from public reports; the figure is still an estimate. SalaryLeaks |
Does the evidence show that he earned more at Ajax?
No reliable increase or decrease is established by these sources. SalarySport gives the same weekly sterling estimate for its Middlesbrough and Ajax entries. SalaryLeaks gives a separate Ajax estimate in euros, but the pages do not establish a shared method or comparable basis for the figures.
A clean comparison would require knowing whether the figures represent gross or net pay, which period they cover, how bonuses and incentives are treated, and—if currencies are compared—which exchange rate date applies. Capology cautions that its salary figures are estimates rather than official figures, may have limited or incomplete coverage, and that its base-salary estimates exclude bonuses and incentives. Those caveats illustrate why wage databases should not be treated as payroll records; they do not verify Akpom’s actual pay. Capology’s Ajax salary page and Akpom’s Capology profile include estimate disclaimers.
