Chrono24 launched ChronoPulse on October 20, 2023, as a free, public price index for the secondary luxury-watch market. Its key claim is that it is built on completed transactions from Chrono24’s own marketplace rather than on asking prices alone. It tracks aggregate price movement across 14 brands and 140 models. It is a gauge of market direction, not a valuation tool for any individual watch.
What ChronoPulse is
Chrono24 announced ChronoPulse in Karlsruhe, Germany, on October 20, 2023, alongside the company’s 20th anniversary. The company said the index is accessible on its website and is built from anonymized first-party sales data, meaning sales recorded on Chrono24’s own platform. The current ChronoPulse page describes it as a price indicator for the global secondary watch market, with a historical series beginning in January 2019.
Which watches it covers
The launch basket was chosen by sales weight. Chrono24 selected the 14 brands with the largest contributions to its gross merchandise volume, then took 10 high-selling models from each brand, for 140 models in total. The launch announcement said this selection was intended to cover more than 80% of the luxury-watch market. That coverage figure is the company’s own stated goal, not an independently measured share.
The 14 brands in the launch basket are:
- Rolex
- Omega
- Patek Philippe
- Audemars Piguet
- Breitling
- Cartier
- IWC
- Panerai
- TAG Heuer
- Tudor
- Jaeger-LeCoultre
- Grand Seiko
- Hublot
- Vacheron Constantin
The current page gives examples of tracked models: the Rolex Submariner, Patek Philippe Nautilus, Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and Omega Seamaster. Because the index is a basket, a single model’s price history is not the same thing as the index itself.

How the index is built
Data source and volume
The index draws on Chrono24’s own transaction records. The figures Chrono24 has published use different labels and time frames, so they should not be treated as interchangeable:
| Figure | Value | Source and date | What it describes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brands and models in the basket | 14 brands, 140 models | Chrono24 launch announcement, October 20, 2023; current ChronoPulse page | Index scope at launch and as described on the current page |
| Market coverage goal | More than 80% of the luxury-watch market | Chrono24 launch announcement, October 20, 2023 | The company’s stated coverage target for the basket, not a measured share |
| Data points | More than 4.6 million | Chrono24 launch announcement, October 20, 2023 | Company-reported data points at launch |
| Sales over the company’s history | More than 1 million across 20 years, about 30,000 per month on average | Chrono24 launch announcement, October 20, 2023 | Company-reported sales history at launch |
| Transactions analyzed | More than 600,000 | Current ChronoPulse page, checked October 2026 | Transactions stated on the live page; this is a different measure from the launch-era sales figures |
Methodology
Chrono24 Magazine’s launch coverage, dated October 31, 2023, says the index was developed by data specialists and economic experts and is based on the Laspeyres index method. A Laspeyres index measures price change against a base period, with the components weighted by reference quantities from that period. Chrono24 says the index data is updated daily, and that the selection and weighting of brands and models is reviewed every six months. The company has not published a full formula beyond this description, so readers cannot reproduce the calculation from public material alone.

Reading the index points
Each index starts at 1,000 points on January 1, 2019. Chrono24 says point changes correspond to percentage changes, and that because the index is expressed in points rather than prices, indices can be compared with one another regardless of the price level of their component watches. A simple example: a move from 1,000 to 970 points is a 3% decline, and a move from 1,000 to 1,080 points is an 8% rise.
What the index reported for Q1 2025
In an April 29, 2025 update, Chrono24 reported that its index showed a 3% decline in secondary-market luxury-watch prices in the first quarter of 2025. The same update said four brands recorded increases. This is the company’s index result for that period, not an independent census of every secondary-market sale.

What ChronoPulse does not tell you
- It is not an appraisal. The index describes aggregate movement across a basket of brands and models. It does not estimate what a specific watch, with its own condition, papers and history, would sell for.
- It does not guarantee a sale price. Chrono24 does not present the index as a predictor of what any one watch will fetch.
- It does not forecast returns. Past movement in a price index does not establish that prices will rise or fall in the future, and the company’s description does not claim otherwise.
- It is not every sale in the market. The data come from Chrono24’s marketplace. They are not a census of all secondary-market transactions worldwide.
- Chrono24 is both the data source and the publisher. The index is not presented as independent of the marketplace that supplies its data, and no independent validation of the methodology is established by the sources cited here.
How to compare it with other price indicators
The sources available for this article do not support a numerical comparison between ChronoPulse and any other index. A fair comparison therefore has to be made on method. When you set ChronoPulse beside another price indicator, check these five points:
- Data source: completed transactions or asking prices.
- Scope: which brands and models are included, and how they were selected.
- Geography and time: where the data come from and which period is covered.
- Weighting and revisions: how often the basket and weights change.
- Output: an aggregate index, or an estimate for an individual watch.
How to use ChronoPulse
Chrono24 Magazine framed its launch around three questions many owners ask: “How much is your watch really worth?”, “When is the best time to sell your watch?” and “And when is the best time to purchase a new one for your collection?” The index can help with the timing questions by showing whether the broader market for a group of models has been rising or falling over a given period. It cannot answer the first question for a single watch.

- Note the date range you are looking at. A quarterly decline and a multi-year trend can point in different directions.
- Check whether the brand you own is in the basket. If it is not, the aggregate figure says nothing about it.
- Use the index as one input alongside the current prices of comparable watches and your own assessment of condition and documentation.
- Recheck the page after each update. Chrono24 says data are refreshed daily, so the figures on the page will change.
