Chinese buyers booked about 20 cargoes of Argentine soybeans—roughly 1.3 million metric tons—after Argentina temporarily suspended export taxes in September 2025, according to estimates from two traders cited by Reuters. That was a reported booking estimate, not an official count of cargoes shipped or delivered.
What did the 20-cargo estimate include?
Reuters reported on September 24, 2025, that the traders said the purchases included both old- and new-crop soybeans. Most cargoes were scheduled for November shipment, while about 20% were allocated to the next year’s crop. The report did not verify shipment or delivery of every booking.
The traders estimated the price at about $2 per bushel above the CBOT November soybean contract. That was an attributed market estimate, not a verified price for every cargo.
Why did Chinese buyers turn to Argentina?
The buying followed Argentina’s temporary suspension of export taxes, which Reuters described as lasting through October or until declared exports reached $7 billion. Those were the reported terms at the time; they do not establish Argentina’s current export-tax policy.

- High Yield Bush Growth: midori giant edamame seeds form 24-36 inch nitrogen-fixing bushes, rewarding vegetable garden growers in USDA 3-9 with crunchy pods rich in complete protein.
- Fast Germination: soybean seeds for planting sprout in 5-10 days at 70-90 °F, letting home garden beginners harvest tender edamame in just 80 days while heirloom seeds thrive in loamy soil.
- Nutrient-Rich Snack: soy beans deliver sweet nutty flavor and buttery texture; boil or freeze for soy-protein snacks, soy bean seeds to plant are ideal for survival gardening fans seeking clean non gmo edamame.
- Easy Direct Sow: edamame seeds for planting outdoors need 1" depth and 12" spacing, no trellis required; bush habit suits containers or raised beds, making veggie seeds ideal for small spaces.
- Disease-Smart Cultivation: edamame seeds to plant resist common pests when grown in full sun and evenly moist soil; gardening kit growers mulch to conserve water and pick bright green pods before they yellow.
Reuters cited competitive Argentine prices, trade tensions between the United States and China, and the timing of the U.S. harvest as factors pressuring U.S. soybean market share. It did not provide a complete, like-for-like delivered-cost comparison between Argentine and U.S. supplies, so the reported buying does not by itself show that Argentine soybeans were cheaper in every relevant shipment.
Wang Wenshen, an analyst at Sublime China Information, told Reuters that Chinese crushing margins for Argentine soybeans were attractive at about 200 yuan ($28) a ton. This was a dated analyst assessment, not a reported margin guaranteed for every buyer or cargo. Wang also forecast that China would accelerate Argentine purchases to cover a procurement gap from November to January before the October 31 deadline or the $7 billion quota limit; that was a forecast in September 2025, not confirmation of what subsequently happened.

Why do reports give different cargo totals?
The CERA–IEI Observatorio China report, published in October 2025, notes a different media estimate: Clarín reported 42 cargoes totaling 2.7 million tons, compared with Reuters’ estimate of 20 cargoes and roughly 1.3 million tons. The report does not reconcile the figures or establish whether they reflect different time windows, categories, or methods. The available accounts therefore do not support treating either number as a definitive official total.

- Reported bookings: Reuters’ estimate came from two traders who spoke anonymously. Public transaction records for each cargo were not provided.
- Shipments and deliveries: The reports do not establish that all booked cargoes were shipped or delivered.
- Policy after the reported period: These accounts do not establish the current status of Argentina’s export-tax policy.
- Comparison with U.S. supply: The reporting identifies factors behind the shift but does not offer a full cost comparison by origin, shipment month, and crop year.
For readers following commodity markets, the 20-cargo figure is best understood as a trader-sourced snapshot of buying during a temporary policy window—not as a final tally of deliveries or a measure of current Argentine trade policy.

Quick Recap
Best Value
- HEIRLOOM VARIETY & HIGH YIELD: Outsidepride soy bean seeds is a robust heirloom strain known for its high yield, producing over 3 bushels per acre more than the popular Manokin variety, making it a valuable choice for maximizing harvest output. This variety is perfect for outdoor gardening enthusiasts looking to optimize their yard space.
- RICH IN PROTEIN & OIL WITH VERSATILE USES: Containing about 18% oil and 38% protein, this soybean variety is perfect for producing high-quality soy bean oil and protein-rich meal. These soybeans can be processed into a wide range of products, including soy milk powder, soy flour, soy protein, tofu, and various industrial non-food products, showcasing its versatility. Ideal for making various soy-based meals such as edamame snacks.
- OPTIMAL PLANTING GUIDELINES FOR MAXIMUM YIELD: For best results, plant soybean seeds at a depth of 0.75 to 1.5 inches, with row spacing between 7.5 and 15 inches, depending on soil type and tillage. This ensures uniform seed placement and optimal growth, adapting well to midwestern states and capturing a significant percentage of non-GMO acres.
- HIGH-PROTEIN ANIMAL FEED: The high-protein fiber left after oil extraction is ideal for animal feed, particularly for poultry and swine industries, which consume over half of the processed soybean meal. This meal is also crucial for cattle, other farm animals, and pets, ensuring they receive the necessary nutrients for growth and development. A great addition to feed mixes for cowpeas and other legumes.
- ECONOMIC AND NUTRITIONAL: As the most economically important bean globally, soybeans provide essential vegetable protein for millions and are key ingredients in hundreds of chemical products. A 60-pound bushel of our soybeans seed yields about 11 pounds of crude soybean oil and 47 pounds of soybean meal. Beneficial for producing shelf-stable goods for long-term use.
