Compare China Construction Bank (CCB) with other Chinese bank stocks using the same reporting period, share class and definitions—not a single headline ratio. Start with large-bank peers such as Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) and Bank of China (BOC), then compare profitability, asset quality, capital, dividends, valuation and business mix. CCB’s 2025 figures provide useful context, but they do not show that it outperformed its peers.
Which Chinese banks make useful peers for CCB?
ICBC and BOC are practical starting points for a comparison with CCB because they are large listed Chinese banks with official financial-report directories. They are not the only possible peers. A broader list could include banks with different ownership, customer bases or business models, but those differences should be treated as part of the comparison rather than ignored.
Use issuer materials for each bank: CCB’s investor-relations reports and announcements, ICBC’s financial reports and BOC’s financial reports. CCB’s directory lists a 2026 half-year report dated August 28, 2026, alongside its 2025 annual reports. ICBC’s directory lists a 2026 interim results announcement dated August 28, 2026, and an interim report dated September 24, 2026; BOC’s directory lists 2026 interim and 2025 annual materials. These listings identify documents to consult, not a set of already aligned peer metrics.
Compare the banks on a like-for-like basis
Before drawing a conclusion, record the reporting period, currency and unit, whether a figure is for the group or the bank alone, the applicable accounting or regulatory basis, and—when market prices are involved—the share class and price date. Do not combine CCB’s full-year figure with a peer’s interim figure as if they covered the same period.

| Comparison area | What to check | Why comparability matters |
|---|---|---|
| Earnings and profitability | Net interest margin (NIM), net profit trend and return on equity (ROE) | Use matching periods and establish whether figures are group-wide or bank-only. A single year’s profit can be affected by one-off items and changing business conditions. |
| Asset quality | Non-performing loan (NPL) ratio, overdue or classified loans where disclosed, allowance coverage, credit-cost trends and sector concentrations | Headline NPL ratios do not capture every sign of credit stress. Definitions, write-offs, restructuring and borrower mix can differ. |
| Capital and resilience | Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1), Tier 1 and total capital ratios; also review leverage and liquidity disclosures | Match the reporting date and applicable capital rules. A ratio is not directly comparable if the measurement basis differs. |
| Shareholder returns | Declared cash dividends, payout ratio, dividend per share and yield | Distinguish proposed dividends from approved distributions. Yield depends on a dated share price and the specific share class. |
| Valuation | Price-to-book (P/B) and any other valuation measure you use | Align share class, market date, currency and book-value basis. A P/B comparison is not meaningful if those inputs differ. |
| Business mix and exposure | Retail and corporate lending, geographic reach, fee businesses, policy-linked lending and concentrations | Use the mix to understand potential sources of earnings and risk; it does not by itself establish which bank is better. |
Start with earnings, funding and asset quality
Profitability and funding
NIM helps show how much a bank earns from interest-earning assets relative to interest expense, while ROE relates profit to shareholders’ equity. Read both alongside the direction of net profit and the period covered. A higher ROE alone does not settle the comparison: it should be read with capital levels, earnings composition and credit risk.
Credit risk
Compare each bank’s NPL ratio with its allowance coverage and credit-cost trend rather than treating any one figure as a full measure of loan quality. Then inspect disclosed overdue or classified lending and sector concentrations. Differences in loan classification, write-offs or restructuring can make similar-looking headline ratios less comparable than they appear.

Use CCB’s capital and dividend figures as dated context
CCB’s 2025 annual report gives a year-end total capital ratio of 19.69%, a Tier 1 ratio of 15.47% and a CET1 ratio of 14.63%. CCB says the ratios were calculated under the Rules on Capital Management of Commercial Banks and complied with regulatory requirements. These are CCB’s figures for that reporting date; they do not establish a lead over ICBC, BOC or another bank without same-period peer ratios measured on a comparable basis. See CCB’s 2025 annual report filed for A-share/HKEX reporting.
For 2025, CCB reported a combined cash dividend of RMB 3.887 per ten shares, including tax, with an aggregate amount of approximately RMB 101,684 million. The report states that this represented 30% of group net profit attributable to equity shareholders; the final dividend portion was subject to shareholder approval. This is a historical distribution, not a forecast or a current dividend yield. Yield requires a dated price for the relevant share class. See CCB’s 2025 annual report filed for H-share reporting.

In addition, it can be used as a unique decoration or a thoughtful gift for those who appreciate philosophy and spirituality.
- Note: Chinese Ancestor Money is not legal tender issued by any bank or government agency and has no cash value. They are usually burnt to dedicate to the ancestors and to pray for blessings of prosperity and good luck. Safety is always a priority when burning ancestral money. Burn in a well-ventilated area, preferably in a metal container, and make sure the embers are completely extinguished when you are finished. Never leave the burning process unattended
Keep A-shares and H-shares separate for price-based comparisons
CCB and peers may have more than one listed share class. When comparing share prices, returns, P/B ratios or dividend yields, identify whether you are using A-shares or H-shares, the currency, and the market date. A company-level dividend amount does not provide a share-class-specific yield by itself; that calculation also needs the relevant per-share dividend and dated market price. The available report listings do not establish a current price relationship or a current valuation ranking among the banks.

- Choose the peer set. Begin with ICBC and BOC as large-bank comparators, and add any other listed banks only when their business model or exposure makes them relevant to your question.
- Collect matching reports. Use the issuer directories for CCB, ICBC and BOC. For how to access CCB financial information, consult its financial reporting guidance.
- Align the data. Compare the same reporting period and note group or bank basis, currency, units and definitions. Keep annual and interim periods distinct.
- Build the operating comparison. Review NIM, net profit direction and ROE alongside NPLs, allowance coverage, credit costs and concentration disclosures.
- Check resilience and distributions. Compare CET1, Tier 1 and total capital on a consistent regulatory basis; then separate approved dividends from proposed ones.
- Calculate valuation last. Use a common market date, share class and currency for P/B or yield, and state the book-value or dividend basis used.
A comparison table should show the source report and reporting date beside each metric. If a figure is unavailable or cannot be aligned, mark it as not stated and identify the source consulted rather than filling the gap with an estimate. The issuer report directories above provide access to materials, but the figures need to be extracted and aligned before making a numeric peer ranking.
