Chime’s $25 Billion Valuation Was a 2021 Private Mark—not Its IPO Price

The $25 billion Chime valuation was a reported 2021 private-company mark, not its IPO price or current market value. Chime went public in 2025 at $27 per share.

The $25 billion figure attached to Chime was a reported valuation from a 2021 private financing round, not its IPO price or a verified current market value. In December 2024, Chime took another step toward going public by confidentially filing IPO paperwork with the SEC, according to TechCrunch. Chime later filed publicly, priced its IPO at $27 per share in June 2025, and reported that it completed the offering in its FY2025 annual report.

What the $25 billion Chime valuation meant

TechCrunch reported on December 19, 2024, that Chime’s last reported private valuation was $25 billion, associated with a $1 billion financing round in August 2021. That is a historical private-company valuation—not the amount Chime raised in its IPO, an IPO price per share, or a current market capitalization. TechCrunch’s December 2024 report is the source for that historical figure.

Those distinctions matter because a company valuation and a per-share offer price measure different things. The $25 billion figure refers to a private financing context; the later $27 figure was the price investors were offered each IPO share. The cited offering details do not provide a fully diluted share-count calculation that would support a precise like-for-like comparison of the private valuation with the IPO’s equity value.

What “another step toward an IPO” referred to

The phrase described a confidential SEC filing reported by TechCrunch on December 19, 2024. Chime declined to comment to the publication at that time. A confidential filing was a step in the process, not confirmation that the IPO had already taken place.

The $27 offer price is not itself a company valuation. It tells you the IPO price for one share, while a total equity valuation depends on the relevant share count and valuation basis. The figures cited here do not establish a precise, directly comparable IPO valuation against the 2021 private mark.

Did Chime go public, and what is it worth now?

Yes. Chime’s FY2025 annual report says it completed its IPO. The same report gives company-reported FY2025 revenue of $2.2 billion and 9.5 million Active Members. These are operating figures from the company, not a current market valuation.

The $25 billion valuation should therefore not be presented as what Chime is worth today. A current market capitalization or share price requires a dated market quote; the figures cited here do not establish one for October 2026.
