Cherlato is a mobile gelato truck launched by Cher and New Zealand gelato artisan Gianpaolo “Giapo” Grazioli. It began its Los Angeles debut weekend on July 28, 2023, with an imaginative menu combining familiar treats and unexpected pairings. The brand now advertises the truck for Los Angeles-area event hire, but its website does not publish a complete current schedule.
What is Cherlato?
Cherlato is a collaboration between Cher and Gianpaolo “Giapo” Grazioli, the New Zealand gelato maker known as Giapo. The project brings his gelato to customers from a mobile truck, with Cher’s enthusiasm for ice cream and a playful, visually distinctive identity at its center. The truck’s Los Angeles debut weekend was announced to start July 28, 2023, according to Cherlato’s launch announcement distributed by PR Newswire.
How did Cher and Giapo come up with the idea?
In an interview with Vogue published September 26, 2023, Cher said she encountered Giapo’s shop while touring Auckland in 2018. She connected the project to childhood memories of ice-cream trucks and her enduring love of ice cream. The later collaboration turned that interest into a mobile gelato business.
The launch announcement quoted Cher saying, “It’s the gelato that gets you out of bed at midnight,” and, “It’s no secret that I absolutely love ice cream and gelato.” Giapo described the venture in the same brand-issued announcement: “Celebrating the harmony between the art of gelato and respect for nature, Cherlato is our passion realized.”

The launch announcement also mentioned optional toppings. Vogue reported gold cones and a gold-dusted cotton-candy detail with the kefir-cardamom flavor. Those are descriptions of the 2023 presentation, not assurances that the same items or styling are available now.

How did the menu work?
Vogue reported that the truck carried five flavors at a time and described the menu as pairing Cher’s preference for familiar flavors with Giapo’s more unusual combinations. Giapo told Vogue, “The menu will more than rotate, it will evolve,” referring to changes shaped by seasons, ingredients and customer tastes. That approach is why a launch list should not be treated as a current order guide.
Where can you find Cherlato now?
Cherlato’s official website advertises the truck for hire throughout Los Angeles and nearby surrounding areas and invites event bookings. It also lists past appearances, including The Abbey in West Hollywood, Day Trip Festival, OutLoud Festival, a Garnier private event, Faena Hotel Miami Beach for Miami Art Week 2025, and a Faena New York pop-up. What did Cherlato say about its ingredients?
The launch announcement named Alexandre Family Farm, Alana’s Coffee Roasters, Kimball Avocados, Malibu Mylk, Arnett Farms, Bill’s Bees Honey and Watkins Organic Mexican Vanilla as ingredient partners. It characterized its ingredients as locally sourced, regenerative, fresh and premium. Those sourcing and sustainability descriptions come from Cherlato’s own launch announcement; the cited coverage does not independently audit them.
