Re:

Cheap domain names – Buy a new domain for only $0.01

Hostinger’s $0.01 .com promotion applies to the first year of a required three-year registration. Here is the actual cost, checkout process, renewal pricing, and the traps to avoid.

A new domain can cost as little as $0.01 for the first year at Hostinger, but that headline price does not describe the full purchase. The current .com promotion requires a three-year registration. The first year is $0.01, while years two and three are listed at the regular $19.99 annual price, making the advertised pre-tax total about $39.99.

That total can increase when VAT, optional add-ons, or a premium domain are included. Treat the offer as a discounted multi-year purchase—not as a one-year .com domain for one cent.

What the $0.01 domain offer really costs

Hostinger currently advertises selected .com domains at $0.01 for the first year. The promotion is tied to a three-year registration term.

Cost item Amount
Year 1 promotional price $0.01
Year 2 $19.99
Year 3 $19.99
Advertised three-year subtotal Approximately $39.99
VAT Not included in displayed prices

The .com pricing page also lists a $0.20 ICANN fee. Check the final cart total rather than relying on the promotional banner, because taxes and optional products can change the amount charged.

The regular renewal price shown by Hostinger is $19.99 per year. After the initial registration period, a domain that you keep will generally renew at the then-current rate, not at $0.01.

Other inexpensive domain extensions

The $0.01 price is not available for every domain or every extension. Hostinger’s domain search page currently lists these introductory prices for selected extensions:

Extension Listed first-year price
.shop $0.99
.online $0.99
.cloud $1.99
.icu $1.99
.pro $2.99
.info $3.99
.io $31.99

These are extension-specific introductory prices. They do not tell you what the domain will cost to renew. A cheap first year can become an expensive recurring bill if you do not check the renewal rate before purchasing.

How to buy the domain

  1. Open Hostinger’s Domain Checker.
  2. Enter the name you want and click Search.
  3. For an available name, click Add to cart.
  4. Choose the registration period from the dropdown. To qualify for the advertised .com promotion, select the required three-year term.
  5. Review the introductory price, future renewal price, taxes, ICANN fee, privacy status, and any optional add-ons.
  6. Select an existing payment method or add a new one.
  7. Click complete the payment.
  8. Enter or confirm the domain’s contact details to finish registration.

If you already have a Hostinger account, the route is hPanel → Domains → Domain Checker. Search for the name, click Add to cart, select the term, confirm your contact information and payment method, and complete payment.

Check the cart before paying

From a personal-finance perspective, the most important step is comparing the total commitment with the headline discount. Confirm all of the following:

  • Registration term: the .com promotion currently requires three years.
  • Full term total: do not budget only $0.01.
  • Renewal price: the current listed .com renewal price is $19.99 per year.
  • VAT: displayed prices exclude VAT.
  • Premium pricing: premium names can cost much more than ordinary registrations.
  • Privacy: free privacy is available for supported extensions, but not every TLD qualifies.
  • Optional protection: premium domain protection may appear as an add-on.

A useful budgeting rule is to record the renewal date and expected annual price immediately after purchase. A domain is a recurring subscription-like expense: inexpensive at signup does not necessarily mean inexpensive to keep.

What happens after payment

A paid domain can initially appear in hPanel as Pending setup. Payment alone does not necessarily mean that registration has been completed. Finish the setup from the hPanel Home page by selecting the domain order and using an existing contact profile or entering new contact details.

Once registration is complete, domain controls are available at Domains → Domain portfolio → Manage. The management area includes sections such as:

Verify the contact email within 15 days

Hostinger’s current guidance says the email address attached to the domain contact record must be verified within 15 days. If it is not verified, the registry may temporarily suspend the domain.

Check the inbox—and spam or junk folders—for the verification message. If it does not arrive, resend the request from Domain Overview. You can also update the contact details and resend the verification email.

Common problems that can make a “cheap” domain costly

The name is unavailable

Short, common, and commercially valuable names are often already registered. Hostinger’s checker will show alternative names and other TLDs. Compare the total purchase and renewal costs before switching to a different extension simply because the first-year price is lower.

The domain is premium

A premium domain can have a substantially higher upfront price and renewal price. Do not assume the $0.01 promotion applies to a name labeled Premium domain. The individual listing and checkout price control.

The extension has eligibility rules

Some country-code extensions require particular contact details, residency, business status, or other eligibility information. Hostinger identifies restrictions for extensions including .com.au, .de, .dk, .id, .it, .ma, .pk, .pt, and .tr. If you cannot meet the rules, registration may fail or the domain may later be suspended.

Privacy is not supported

Free domain privacy is not available for every TLD. Where privacy is unsupported, registration information may be visible in public domain records. Check the privacy status before payment if keeping personal contact details private matters to you.

You mistype the domain

A registered domain generally cannot simply be renamed. A replacement may be possible while the order is still Pending setup or where the purchase qualifies under Hostinger’s refund policy. Free domains and non-refundable TLDs may not qualify.

You forget the renewal

Hostinger sends renewal reminders, but allowing a domain to expire can eventually lead to recovery fees or loss of the name. You can enable Auto-renewal from Domain Overview, provided a valid payment method remains attached to the account. If you do not want an automatic charge, set your own calendar reminder well before the expiration date.

Domain ownership, hosting, and transfers

Buying a domain does not automatically provide web hosting. The domain is the address; hosting is the service that stores and serves the website. They can be purchased together, but they are separate products and costs.

A newly registered domain is normally subject to the standard 60-day ICANN transfer lock. After that period, a transfer generally requires unlocking the domain and obtaining its authorization or EPP code. This matters if you later find a cheaper registrar or want to consolidate your domains elsewhere.

Is the $0.01 domain deal worth it?

It can be worthwhile if you already intend to keep the domain for three years and the final checkout total fits your budget. The promotion reduces the first year’s registration cost, while the two following years are paid at the listed standard price.

It is less attractive if you only want a domain for a short experiment, are comparing one-year costs, or are choosing an extension solely because its introductory price looks low. In those cases, compare:

  1. The complete initial term cost.
  2. The renewal price from year four onward.
  3. VAT and any registration fees.
  4. Whether privacy is included.
  5. Whether the domain is premium or subject to eligibility restrictions.

For a business, creator project, or long-term website, a memorable name and predictable renewal cost are usually more important than saving a few dollars during the first year.

FAQ

Can I buy a .com domain from Hostinger for only $0.01 for one year?

Not under the current advertised offer. The $0.01 first-year .com price requires selecting a three-year registration term. The listed pre-tax total is approximately $39.99: $0.01 for the first year and $19.99 for each of the next two years.

What will the domain cost after the promotion?

Hostinger currently lists the regular .com price at $19.99 per year. Renewal prices can change, so check the renewal amount shown at checkout and again before the domain renews.

Does buying a cheap domain include hosting?

No. A domain registration and web hosting are separate products. You can use the domain with hosting from Hostinger or another provider.

Is domain privacy included with the $0.01 offer?

Free privacy is included for supported extensions, but not every TLD supports privacy protection. Check the domain’s privacy status before completing payment.

The Bottom Line

The Hostinger $0.01 .com promotion is a real first-year discount, but it is not a one-year domain purchase for one cent. The current offer requires a three-year term costing about $39.99 before VAT and optional extras. Check the renewal price, confirm privacy and eligibility, complete contact verification within 15 days, and enable auto-renewal only if you want the domain to renew automatically.
