The department says that advertisement was withdrawn on 16 January 2024. A separate, later JBT process under Advertisement 06/2023 proceeded to an examination and subsequent notices; it should not be confused with the 293-post call.
Is Chandigarh JBT recruitment for 293 posts still open?
No. The 293 vacancies were announced in Advertisement 01/2023, dated 30 June 2023. The Chandigarh Education Department reports that the advertisement’s application portal operated from August through November 2023 and that the notice was withdrawn on 16 January 2024. The department also accepted fee-refund requests through 31 October 2024. These are historical dates, not a current application window.
What were the 293 JBT vacancies?
The Education Department, Chandigarh Administration, described the regular JBT posts as primary-teacher posts for classes I–V. Its 2023 category breakdown was:
| Category or reservation | Posts stated in Advertisement 01/2023 |
|---|---|
| General | 149 |
| OBC | 56 |
| SC | 59 |
| EWS | 29 |
| Benchmark-disability horizontal reservation | 12 |
| Ex-servicemen horizontal reservation | 29 |
The disability and ex-servicemen figures were horizontal reservations to be adjusted against the relevant vertical categories; they are not additional vacancies to add to the 293 total. The advertisement stated a pay scale of Rs. 9,300–34,800 plus Grade Pay Rs. 4,200, citing a Chandigarh Administration finance notification dated 29 March 2023. That is the scale stated in the 2023 advertisement, not confirmation of the current pay scale.

What were the application dates and fees?
The detailed Advertisement 01/2023 scheduled online applications from 20 July 2023 at 11:00 a.m. until 14 August 2023 at 5:00 p.m.; the fee deadline was 17 August 2023 at 2:00 p.m. The department’s later account of the portal period says it operated from August through November 2023, so the scheduled dates should not be treated as the full eventual portal history.
The notice set a non-refundable application fee of Rs. 1,000, reduced to Rs. 500 for SC candidates. It also specified an exemption for persons with disabilities under Government of India instructions. These fees and deadlines belong to the historical advertisement.

What eligibility did Advertisement 01/2023 require?
The notice required candidates to meet the qualifications by the application closing date. It specified graduation from a recognized university plus one of these teacher-training routes:
- A recognized NCTE two-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.); or
- Graduation with at least 50% marks plus a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.).
Passing the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) under NCTE guidelines was also required. For a B.Ed.-qualified candidate appointed to teach classes I–V, the notice prescribed completion of a recognized six-month bridge course within two years of appointment. It further required the stated computer-skills course condition to be met before an appointment letter.
Rank #3
Accordingly, B.Ed. alone was not enough under the notice: CTET and the other applicable conditions also mattered. These were the terms of Advertisement 01/2023; anyone considering a future recruitment should use the eligibility rules in that future notice rather than assume the 2023 terms remain unchanged.
What was the Chandigarh JBT exam pattern?
Advertisement 01/2023 prescribed an objective test of 150 multiple-choice questions for 150 marks, with two hours and 30 minutes to complete it. The notice set a 40% qualifying threshold for all candidates and deducted 0.25 marks for each wrong answer. The test was to be bilingual in English and Hindi except for language papers; the notice gave separate details for the Punjabi-medium option.
Rank #4
Selection was based on merit by total test marks, with no interview. The department’s notice put it plainly: “No interview will be conducted.”

Advertisement 06/2023 was a separate, later JBT process—not a reopening of the 293 posts under Advertisement 01/2023. The department’s exam portal reports that its OMR examination took place on 28 April 2024, and the department lists later examination, document-verification, offer, and appointment-related notices.
