Celebrities Who Made a Fortune Outside of Showbiz

Celebrity businesses span beauty, consumer goods, spirits and apparel, but a brand valuation is not the same as a founder’s fortune or cash from a sale.

Some celebrities have built major wealth through businesses beyond their entertainment work—but a company’s valuation, a star’s personal net worth and money actually received from a sale are different measures. Rihanna’s beauty business is a prominent example; other ventures range from consumer goods to tequila and fitness apparel, with mixed outcomes.

What counts as a fortune outside show business?

There is no complete, consistently measured ranking of fortunes made specifically outside entertainment. Forbes Australia’s 2026 celebrity-billionaire list counts 22 people with a combined estimated net worth of $48.1 billion, based on estimates as of March 1, 2026. Its scope is broader than entrepreneurs whose wealth came entirely from other industries: Forbes says it includes people “who became famous first, then massively rich.” A celebrity on that list may have wealth from entertainment as well as business ownership.

For an individual venture, distinguish four things: the company’s estimated value, the value of the celebrity’s stake, the person’s overall estimated net worth, and cash proceeds from a completed sale. They are not interchangeable, and figures from different years should not be compared as if they were current or equivalent.

Celebrity businesses and what the evidence shows

Celebrity and venture Business model and role Dated financial evidence What the record establishes
Rihanna — Fenty Beauty Beauty and cosmetics; Forbes Australia describes Rihanna as a co-owner with LVMH. Forbes Australia estimated Rihanna’s personal net worth at $1 billion in 2026. A 2021 Forbes estimate put Fenty’s brand value at $2.8 billion, as reported by the Los Angeles Times in 2023. Forbes Australia identifies Fenty Beauty as her biggest asset. A possible sale of LVMH’s stake was reported as under exploration, not as a completed deal.
Jessica Alba — The Honest Company Consumer goods; Alba co-founded the company in 2011. Its categories expanded from baby products to household cleaning, beauty, vitamins and nursery goods. Comparable current personal net worth, ownership stake value and sale proceeds: not stated in the cited reporting. Coverage also recounts legal claims over product ingredients and false-advertising settlements; those claims should not be treated as proof of broader product-safety or environmental assertions.
George Clooney and partners — Casamigos Tequila brand, publicly launched in 2013. Comparable personal proceeds and current company valuation: not stated in the cited 2017 coverage. TIME described the label as commercially successful at the time. That historical account does not establish current performance or how much any individual received.
Gwyneth Paltrow — Goop; Kate Hudson — Fabletics Lifestyle commerce and fitness apparel, respectively. Comparable values for the companies, individual stakes or personal proceeds: not stated in the cited reporting. TIME’s 2017 feature presents them as examples of celebrity businesses, not as proof that every launch became a lasting financial success.
Jessica Biel — Au Fudge Restaurant venture. Comparable valuation or personal proceeds: not stated in the cited reporting. TIME reported in 2017 that the restaurant was not making money at that time; that observation is historical.

Rihanna: wealth built partly through beauty

Forbes Australia’s 2026 estimate places Rihanna’s net worth at $1 billion and identifies Fenty Beauty as her largest asset, describing much of her fortune as built offstage. Fenty Beauty launched in 2017 with makeup products including foundation and concealer, then expanded into skincare in 2020, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The $2.8 billion figure often associated with Fenty is a 2021 Forbes estimate of the brand’s value, reported by the Los Angeles Times in 2023. It is not a current valuation, Rihanna’s personal net worth, or money she is known to have received. Forbes Australia also reported that LVMH was exploring a possible sale of its stake, with a potential valuation for the company between $1 billion and $2 billion. That was a reported possibility, not a completed transaction.

The Honest Company: expansion and scrutiny

Jessica Alba co-founded The Honest Company in 2011. The business expanded beyond baby products into household cleaning, beauty, vitamins and nursery goods, illustrating how a celebrity venture can seek growth across several consumer categories.

That expansion is not by itself evidence of lasting success or of every product claim being substantiated. The Los Angeles Times recounts legal challenges involving ingredient claims and false-advertising settlements. Those reported cases are relevant context, but they do not establish a general conclusion about every product or claim.

Why a celebrity launch is not the same as a business success

Celebrity-led businesses use different models: beauty brands sell products directly or through retail, consumer-goods companies build broad product ranges, spirits brands compete in an established category, and fitness or lifestyle companies sell merchandise and services. A famous founder can attract attention, but a launch alone says little about durable demand, profitability, the founder’s ownership, or eventual proceeds.

TIME’s 2017 coverage gives a useful historical contrast: it described Casamigos as commercially successful after its 2013 public launch, while reporting that Jessica Biel’s Au Fudge restaurant was not making money at the time. The Los Angeles Times’ 2023 roundup likewise records a mix of business acquisitions, changing partnerships, reported declines and legal challenges alongside brand growth. These examples caution against treating celebrity visibility as a guarantee of business results.

How to read celebrity-wealth claims

  • Check the date and measure. A brand valuation from 2021 cannot be presented as a current personal fortune.
  • Look for ownership evidence. Founding, co-founding, co-ownership, a partnership and endorsement are different roles; do not assume a celebrity owns the whole company.
  • Separate estimated wealth from cash. A net-worth estimate or company valuation does not reveal sale proceeds unless reporting gives the amount received.
  • Account for mixed sources. A celebrity billionaire ranking may include earnings from entertainment as well as business ventures.
  • Treat performance claims in context. A historical account of success, losses or a possible sale is not proof of present-day results.
