PerthNow reported that Western Australia’s Lotterywest Cash 3 drew 4-9-5 in the same order on November 30 and December 1, 2024. If one specific three-digit sequence has just appeared, the chance of that exact sequence appearing in the next draw is 1 in 1,000, or 0.1%, assuming fair, independent draws. That makes the repeat unusual, but it does not make 4-9-5—or any other sequence—more or less likely next time.
What happened in the reported Cash 3 repeat?
In a December 2, 2024 report, PerthNow said Cash 3 produced 4-9-5 on Saturday, November 30, and then drew the same digits in the same order on Sunday, December 1. The report attributed the comment “The odds of this happening is 0.1 per cent” to an unnamed Lotterywest spokesperson. PerthNow also reported the spokesperson’s account that the last such repeat was 0-2-4 on September 1 and 2, 2022. PerthNow’s report
The incident and 2022 precedent are reported accounts: Lotterywest’s historic results page did not expose those past draw records in the information available here. Lotterywest’s current game page does, however, give the odds needed to understand the probability. Lotterywest Cash 3 game information
What are the odds of the same numbers coming up two nights in a row?
Lotterywest currently lists exact-order odds of 1 in 1,000 for one standard Cash 3 game. Because players select three digits from 0 to 9, there are 1,000 possible ordered combinations, from 000 through 999. Once a particular result has occurred, the chance that the next draw matches that exact ordered result is 1 in 1,000, or 0.1%, if the draws are fair and independent. Lotterywest’s current Cash 3 odds

This is a conditional probability: it asks what the next draw’s chance is after a specific sequence has just been drawn. It is not the probability of seeing some repeat at any point across an unlimited series of draws. The spokesperson’s 0.1% figure, as reported by PerthNow, matches the calculation for the next draw repeating the preceding ordered sequence. PerthNow’s report

Does a number become more likely after it was just drawn?
No. Under the fair, independent-draw assumption, a previous result does not change the odds for the next one. After 4-9-5, the chance of 4-9-5 again is still 1 in 1,000 for exact-order play; another specific ordered combination has the same chance. A sequence is not “due” because it has been absent, nor protected from repeating because it appeared recently.
