Cargill’s RegenConnect program was launched in 2021 to connect farmers with environmental markets and pay for soil-health and other environmental outcomes, including carbon sequestered. Cargill’s public announcements establish how the program was described at launch and in a 2023 expansion—not whether it is enrolling in a particular location or what it pays in 2026.

What is Cargill RegenConnect?

RegenConnect is Cargill’s regenerative agriculture program. In its September 2021 announcement, Cargill said it was beginning to enroll farmers and would connect them to environmental markets, with payments tied to improved soil health and environmental outcomes. The launch coverage described a payment per metric ton of carbon sequestered, but it did not establish a rate that can be treated as current or guaranteed.

Cargill framed the program as a way to support regenerative practices while creating economic opportunities for farmers. That is the company’s stated aim, not independent evidence that every participating farm will improve its income or achieve a particular environmental result.

What practices did the program identify?

Cargill’s 2021 launch coverage named cover crops and reduced- or no-tillage as practices farmers could choose. In its 2023 expansion announcement, the company said farmers could select practices suited to their operations. Neither announcement establishes a current, complete list of eligible practices for every location or crop.

  • 4. Attracts Pollinators & Supports Biodiversity - Purple alfalfa blooms attract bees, especially for alfalfa honey production, while providing valuable forage for wildlife and beneficial insects.
  • 5. Versatile & Sustainable Use - Perfect for regenerative agriculture, livestock feed, green manure, or soil improvement — a multi-purpose crop for eco-friendly growers.

A cover crop seed mix may be one input for a farm considering cover crops, but the announcements do not say that purchasing seed is required or sufficient for RegenConnect enrollment. Suitability depends on a farm’s region, rotation and operational needs.

How were soil and carbon outcomes measured?

Cargill’s launch article identified Regrow as RegenConnect’s measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) partner. It described an approach using field data, remote sensing, and crop and soil-health modeling to assess outcomes. The public launch account does not establish the current data requirements, farmer data-use terms, or verification process for a present-day enrollment.

Where did Cargill say the program was available?

In May 2023, Cargill reported expanding RegenConnect to France, Germany, Poland and Romania, and adding nine U.S. states. The company said that brought its U.S. footprint to 24 states at that time. This is a dated snapshot, not confirmation of current availability or enrollment in any particular location.

What do the reported farm-income figures mean?

Successful Farming’s 2021 launch coverage reported results from a Soil Health Institute study of 100 farmers across nine states, supported by Cargill. The figures below describe that study’s findings about soil-health management systems; they are not RegenConnect payment rates or guaranteed results for program participants.

Study finding Reported result
Growers whose incomes increased 85% of corn growers and 88% of soybean growers
Average income increase $52 per acre for corn and $45 per acre for soybeans
Average growing-cost decrease $24 per acre for corn and $17 per acre for soybeans

These are study results as reported in 2021, not a forecast for an individual farm. They should not be confused with any payment a farmer might receive for environmental outcomes through RegenConnect.

What farmers should confirm before deciding

The 2021 and 2023 announcements do not establish whether Cargill is enrolling farmers in 2026, or the current payment amounts, eligible crops, enrollment windows, practices, or data-use terms. Farmers considering the program should ask Cargill to confirm those details for their location and operation before relying on eligibility or payment assumptions.
