Companies House records him as holding 75% or more of Cardiff City Football Club (Holdings) Limited, and Cardiff describes him as its majority shareholder. The club’s latest plans in the cited record are statements made after relegation in April 2025—not confirmation of what happened next.
What is Vincent Tan’s net worth?
Forbes put Tan’s net worth at $940 million in its 2026 Malaysia’s 50 Richest profile, dated as of April 15, 2026. This is a publisher’s estimate of personal wealth, not an audited statement, and it is not the same as Berjaya Corporation’s value, revenue or assets.
A previous figure should not be treated as a competing estimate for the same date: BBC Sport reported a Forbes estimate of $770 million in 2025 while covering possible Cardiff takeover interest. The two figures refer to different years.

What businesses is Vincent Tan associated with?
Tan’s business base is centred on Berjaya Corporation, a diversified Malaysian group. Forbes’ April 2026 profile says he controls Berjaya Corporation and describes its interests as ranging from financial services to property development. Forbes also identifies a stake in privately held U Mobile and a 41% stake in 7-Eleven Malaysia. These descriptions do not mean that every company or subsidiary is wholly owned by Tan personally.

It names Berjaya Corporation group companies, Berjaya Assets, 7-Eleven Malaysia, Berjaya Media, Intan Utilities, U Mobile and MOL Ventures among the companies through which those interests were held.
Roles are dated, not a current job list
At the time of Sports Toto’s 2023 annual report, Tan was described as Berjaya Corporation advisor, chairman of Berjaya Hills Resort and U Mobile, and managing director and CEO of STM Lottery. Those are historical role descriptions from that report; they should not be assumed to describe his positions today.

Who owns Cardiff City?
Companies House currently lists Tan as the active person with significant control of Cardiff City Football Club (Holdings) Limited, with ownership of 75% or more of its shares. Cardiff City’s own company-details page calls him the club’s majority shareholder. The register’s threshold is the specific legal-control information available here; it is not a statement about the exact percentage above that threshold.
How has Tan funded Cardiff City?
In a supporter update published March 3, 2025, Cardiff reported that Tan and connected parties provided £11.832 million in net additional funding during the financial year ended May 31, 2024. The club said shareholder loans accrued interest at 7%, but Tan had waived all interest on his own loans. It also said the loans would be written off or converted to equity when appropriate, with no demand or pressure for repayment.

The same update reported £1.665 million in tangible fixed-asset investment during that financial year. The figure included initial payments securing a 150-year leasehold interest in a site planned for a first-team training ground and operational base. Cardiff also said it had completed a new academy development and was laying the ground for the first-team facility; that update does not establish whether the facility was later completed.

After Cardiff’s relegation in April 2025, Tan acknowledged that decisions about the first team had not all worked as he hoped. In a message to supporters on April 29, he said a review was underway, that a permanent manager and management team would be appointed, and that he was committed to helping the club regain its Championship place at the earliest opportunity. He wrote: “I want us to all pull in the same direction.”

Tan also pushed back against the idea that he did not care, saying: “To say I don’t care is wrong and I strongly push back on that.” These were his stated intentions in April 2025, not a guarantee of a particular result or a statement of the club’s current position. BBC Sport reported at the time that the post-relegation review would involve the owner, board, executive management and stakeholders, with appointments intended for the 2025–26 campaign.
In a separate January 2025 board message, Cardiff characterized Tan as “wholeheartedly committed” and said he was determined to get the club back to the Premier League. That was the board’s description of his intentions, rather than a direct statement from Tan in that message.

Is Vincent Tan selling Cardiff City?
BBC Sport’s 2025 coverage discussed Gareth Bale’s interest in becoming involved in a Cardiff ownership group. At the time, the identities and finances of other possible consortium members had not been verified in the report. It also discussed Cardiff’s substantial debt, its dependence on Tan’s support and the club’s legal claim involving the death of Emiliano Sala as factors that could affect valuation or a sale discussion.
That reporting is a snapshot of interest and possible discussions, not evidence of a completed bid, a rejected transaction or a sale. The cited record does not establish the eventual outcome of takeover discussions, the status of the review announced in 2025, completion of the training facility, or Cardiff’s league position after the 2025–26 season. None of those outcomes should be inferred from Tan’s April 2025 message.
