There is no single Asia-Pacific approval or price list: CAR-T authorization, availability and payment rules differ by country. The available evidence provides historical price examples for China and Japan, but it does not establish a complete, current product inventory for the region. Here is what those figures show—and what they do not tell you about your bill.
Why “approved in Asia-Pacific” is not a single answer
A CAR-T therapy’s approval in one country does not establish approval, sale or reimbursement in another. Even within a country, regulatory approval, whether a treatment is actually available, a payer’s coverage decision and the patient’s final out-of-pocket cost are separate questions.
A 2025 regional review compares regulatory frameworks, pricing trends and reimbursement policies in Singapore, Japan, South Korea, China, India and Thailand. Its abstract does not enumerate every approved product or give a complete country-by-country price list. The product and price examples below are therefore evidence for specific markets and publication dates—not an exhaustive inventory of current Asia-Pacific approvals.
China: three published product-price examples
A 2024 article reported the following China-approved products and per-infusion prices. The figures are publication-era amounts in renminbi (RMB), not verified 2026 quotes or a patient’s final bill.

| Product and brand | Approval date listed in the 2024 article | Reported price per infusion |
|---|---|---|
| Axicabtagene ciloleucel (Yikaida) | June 22, 2021 | RMB 1.2 million (approximately US$168,211 in the article’s conversion) |
| Relmacabtagene autoleucel (Carteyva) | September 1, 2021 | RMB 1.29 million (approximately US$180,827 in the article’s conversion) |
| Equecabtagene autoleucel (FUCASO) | June 30, 2023 | RMB 1.166 million (approximately US$163,445 in the article’s conversion) |
The article’s dollar equivalents reflect its own conversion; they should not be treated as current exchange-rate comparisons. It does not establish here that the products are clinically interchangeable, or that every patient or hospital can access them on the same terms.
Historical Shanghai supplemental-coverage example
The 2024 article also described terms from the 2022 edition of Shanghai’s Huimin Bao/Huhuibao scheme: a RMB 129 annual premium, medical coverage of up to RMB 3.1 million and a RMB 500,000 ceiling for CAR-T products. These are historical scheme details, not current benefits. A ceiling is not a promise that a particular patient’s treatment will be covered or reimbursed in full; current eligibility, exclusions and terms would need to be checked with the scheme and insurer.
Rank #2
Japan: a reported price and a reimbursement mechanism
A 2024 review reported a price of JPY 32,647,761 per drug for five CAR-T drugs, equivalent to approximately US$242,000 using that review’s conversion. The review does not establish current 2026 prices, name the five products in the price statement summarized here, or calculate an individual patient’s liability.
The same review describes Japan’s high-cost medical care reimbursement system, under which eligible out-of-pocket costs above a limit are reimbursed later. The applicable limit and the patient’s actual payment depend on the relevant rules and individual circumstances; the reported product price alone cannot determine either.

India
The 2024 Asian access review stated that India had no approved commercial CAR-T products at that time. That is a dated observation, not confirmation of India’s status in 2026. The available evidence does not establish a current update.
Singapore, South Korea and Thailand
The 2025 regional review includes these countries in its comparison of regulatory and payment approaches, but the available abstract does not list every locally approved CAR-T product, product-specific price or current reimbursement decision for any of them. It does not support a definitive country-by-country answer about which products a patient can obtain today.
Rank #4
What a regional review can—and cannot—tell you
A comparison of regulatory systems can explain why access and affordability differ across countries, but it is not a substitute for current regulator approvals, product labels, hospital availability and payer rules. Those records are needed to confirm a specific product’s current status and indication in the patient’s jurisdiction.
What the quoted price leaves out
A listed cell-product price is only one potential part of the treatment episode. The EBMT/EHA CAR-T Cell Handbook describes additional components including preparation such as leukapheresis and lymphodepletion, infusion, pre- and post-infusion management, and monitoring for side effects. The China and Japan figures above do not establish that these clinical-care costs are included.

For a household budget, distinguish four amounts:
- Product price: a published or quoted amount for the cell product, with its currency, date and pricing basis.
- Clinical-care charges: preparation, hospital care, infusion and follow-up or monitoring charges.
- Payer contribution: insurance benefits, public reimbursement, negotiated arrangements or assistance, if the patient and treatment qualify.
- Patient responsibility: the amount the patient is expected to pay after applicable coverage, deductibles, caps, exclusions and reimbursement rules.
A published price cannot be substituted for the last figure. Before treatment, ask the treating hospital and payer for a written estimate that separates product and clinical-care charges, explains what is covered, and states which amounts may be reimbursed only after payment.

- Start with the treatment country. Ask which regulator’s authorization and which payer’s rules apply; do not infer local status from an approval elsewhere in Asia-Pacific.
- Confirm the exact product and indication. Check the regulator’s current product label or approval record for the brand, active product, patient group and authorized use. A product’s existence in a published price list does not answer whether it is approved for a particular patient’s condition.
- Check availability separately. Ask the treating centre whether the product is currently available there and whether the patient can access it through the relevant pathway.
- Request a treatment-episode estimate. Have the centre itemize the cell product, preparation, infusion, hospital care and monitoring rather than quoting only a product price.
- Ask the payer for the patient-specific calculation. Confirm eligibility, covered services, limits, exclusions, assistance and any reimbursement that occurs after costs are paid. Request the expected out-of-pocket amount and the assumptions behind it in writing.
Because approvals, prices and coverage can change, publication-era figures are useful context but not a substitute for current country-specific records and a patient-specific estimate.
