Short answer: not anymore. T-Mobile’s offer was real when announced on January 14, 2021, but it was a limited launch promotion and is not a current standalone Galaxy S21 deal as of August 18, 2026. The original offer required an eligible trade-in, but not a new line or a port-in. The phone became “free” through 24 monthly bill credits—not necessarily with nothing due at purchase.
T-Mobile’s original announcement said the Galaxy S21 series would go on sale January 29, 2021.

How the original T-Mobile Galaxy S21 deal worked
The trade-in promotion allowed new and existing T-Mobile customers to receive up to approximately $800 in promotional credits toward a Galaxy S21 5G after trading in an eligible phone. The trade-in route did not require adding a line or transferring a number from another carrier.

The basic arithmetic was:
- Approximate Galaxy S21 price: $800
- Maximum promotional credits: up to $800
- Credit period: 24 monthly billing cycles
- Approximate maximum monthly credit: $33.33
In practice, the customer generally financed the device and received credits on subsequent bills. “Free” therefore meant free after the full series of credits, not necessarily a zero-dollar transaction at checkout. Taxes, fees, a device connection charge, or any amount not covered by the promotion could still apply under the applicable terms.

Which Galaxy S21 models were covered?
The historical promotion covered the Galaxy S21 family, but the maximum discount varied by model. The regular Galaxy S21 5G could be fully covered by an approximately $800 credit. Historical reporting said the more expensive models still required an additional payment:
| Model | Historical maximum credit | Approximate remaining balance reported |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S21 5G | Up to $800 | About $0 |
| Galaxy S21+ 5G | Up to $800 | About $200 |
| Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G | Up to $800 | About $400 |
These figures describe the January 2021 promotion and should not be treated as current T-Mobile pricing or availability. See the contemporaneous coverage for the historical model and pricing details.

The available historical announcement does not reproduce every condition rule. It does not establish exactly how T-Mobile handled damaged, financed, locked or nonfunctional phones, missing accessories, inspection failures, or shipping deadlines. Do not assume that every device in one of these families qualified regardless of condition. For a current offer, use T-Mobile’s trade-in estimator and submit the phone’s IMEI or select the model manually.
“Without adding a line” applied only to the trade-in route
This is the detail most likely to be lost in a short headline.
With an eligible trade-in, the 2021 offer did not require:
Rank #3
- The Galaxy S21 FE sports a sleek polycarbonate back with a premium matte finish that resists fingerprints and feels smooth in hand, giving it a stylish yet practical design.
- Adding a new wireless line
- Porting in a number from another carrier
However, customers without a qualifying trade-in were offered a separate buy-one-get-one promotion: buy one Galaxy S21 and receive a second one free when adding a line. T-Mobile’s business version also required adding a line. The no-line and no-port language therefore did not mean that anyone could receive a phone without an eligible trade-in or T-Mobile service.

The original offer used 24 monthly bill credits, so customers needed to review the 2021 promotion terms for the precise cancellation, payoff and trade-in rules. The available announcement confirms the credit schedule but does not establish every historical condition.
T-Mobile’s current bill-credit promotions commonly make credits dependent on maintaining the qualifying account and promotional line. Current terms also warn that credits can stop after cancellation or early device payoff, with a remaining financed balance potentially becoming due. Those current rules are a useful warning, but they should not be presented as proof of every condition attached to the 2021 Galaxy S21 offer.
Rank #4
- The Galaxy S21+ features a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with Quad HD+ resolution and an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate, which intelligently adjusts the refresh rate depending on what you’re doing to balance smooth visuals and battery efficiency. Its HDR10+ support ensures vibrant colors, deep contrasts, and sharp detail, making movies, games, and apps look exceptionally immersive.
Is the Galaxy S21 offer still available in 2026?
There is no evidence on T-Mobile’s current offer pages that this exact Galaxy S21 promotion remains active. T-Mobile’s current Samsung promotions focus on newer devices, including the Galaxy S26 series and Galaxy A57 5G, with requirements that vary by offer. Depending on the promotion, a qualifying plan, trade-in, new line or other condition may be required.
Check the current T-Mobile Samsung deals rather than relying on an old newsroom page, cached search result or 2021 headline. T-Mobile’s promotional-offer details page provides the applicable plan categories, promotion codes, credit amounts and restrictions for current offers.
How to evaluate a current replacement offer
A newer T-Mobile promotion is not automatically equivalent to the old S21 deal. Before accepting one, check:
Best Value
- The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra (Renewed) is a premium smartphone with a 6.8-inch AMOLED display, 120Hz refresh rate, and powerful camera system featuring a 108MP main lens and up to 100x zoom. It supports the S Pen, offers strong performance with 5G connectivity, and is ideal for users seeking flagship features at a better value.
- Device availability: Is the exact model still sold and in stock?
- Plan requirement: Does the offer require moving to a more expensive plan?
- Trade-in value: Is T-Mobile’s promotional value better than selling the old phone privately?
- Line requirement: Is a new line or port-in required?
- Credit schedule: How many credits are issued, and when will the first one appear?
- Up-front charges: What taxes, fees and connection charges are due immediately?
- Exit rules: What happens to the credits and remaining device balance if you cancel or pay off early?
- Inspection rules: What condition, payoff and shipping requirements apply to the trade-in?
Current T-Mobile offers may include taxes based on the pre-credit price and a $35 device connection charge, subject to the specific promotion and customer qualification.
Calculate the real cost
Instead of focusing only on the word “free,” compare the complete cost over the credit period:
Total cost = required plan cost
+ taxes and fees
+ device connection charge
+ amount not covered by credits
− promotional bill credits
− value of your trade-in
Also compare that figure with staying on your current plan and selling the old phone independently. A higher-priced plan can consume much of the apparent device savings, while a 24-month credit schedule may be a poor fit if you expect to change carriers soon.
