Possibly, but a no-receipt return is not guaranteed—and Walmart’s published policy says video games are not returnable. Walmart requires valid government-issued photo ID and approval through its verification process for returns without a receipt. Its policy does not clearly say whether a physical PS5 disc is treated differently from a downloadable game, so confirm your specific purchase with Walmart before visiting.
What Walmart’s no-receipt policy allows
Walmart Help Center says customers without a receipt must show valid government-issued photo identification. Walmart checks the ID information against its secure database; presenting ID does not guarantee that the return will be approved. Walmart may limit or decline a return, including one supported by a receipt.

If Walmart accepts an eligible no-receipt return, the listed outcomes include an exchange or a Walmart gift card. Do not expect a refund to the original payment method through this route. Walmart Help Center’s no-receipt guidance describes the ID requirement and possible outcomes, while Walmart’s corporate return policy explains that returns are subject to verification.
The complication: Walmart’s video-game restriction
Walmart’s corporate policy states that “downloadable software or video games are not returnable.” It does not clearly explain whether “video games” includes physical PS5 discs or whether discs are treated differently from downloads. That leaves a material uncertainty for a disc purchase: the general no-receipt process does not establish that Walmart will accept it.

Check these details before going to the store
- Try to find proof of purchase. Check Walmart Purchase History, especially if you paid with a saved card or Walmart Pay. Walmart’s receipt lookup tool asks for the store location, purchase date, and total.
- Confirm who sold the game. If it was sold and shipped by a Marketplace seller rather than Walmart directly, check the seller and item details because Marketplace policies can differ. See Walmart’s Marketplace return information.
- Contact Walmart before making the trip. Give the store or Walmart customer care the purchase details and ask whether the specific physical disc can be returned without a receipt. The published policy does not resolve that format question.
- If Walmart says the return may be considered, bring valid government-issued photo ID. The return will still be subject to Walmart’s verification process and approval.
What to expect
- A recovered receipt or account record may help establish the purchase, but it does not remove the video-game restriction.
- Without a receipt, an exchange or Walmart gift card may be offered only if Walmart approves the return.
- If the game is a download, Walmart’s stated policy says it is not returnable. For a physical disc, ask Walmart directly rather than assuming the same rule—or an exception—applies.
