Yes. Target Drive Up supports Starbucks Café orders at participating stores and curbside returns for eligible items, but availability depends on the store and, for returns, the item. The headline refers to Target’s planned select-market test in fall 2022; Starbucks ordering later rolled out nationally to stores offering both Drive Up and a Starbucks Café.
What happened to the fall 2022 test?
On February 23, 2022, Target said it planned to test adding Starbucks Café items to Drive Up orders and accepting returns through Drive Up in select markets that fall. That was a pilot plan, not a new 2026 launch. Target’s 2022 announcement described those features as part of a broader set of planned Drive Up enhancements.

Target announced a wider rollout on August 9, 2023. It said Starbucks ordering was beginning that summer and slated to reach more than 1,700 stores that had both a Starbucks Café and Drive Up by October 2023. Target also said Drive Up returns had launched at U.S. stores that summer. Those were Target’s rollout plans and announcement, not an independently measured usage or satisfaction result. How to add a Starbucks order to Drive Up
Use the Target app at a store with a Starbucks Café. You need a default payment method saved to your Target account. The Starbucks order is paid for in the app and appears separately in Order Details.

- Confirm the Starbucks order from the Café menu and pay with your saved default payment method.
- Arrive within 30 minutes of placing the Starbucks order and follow the app’s Drive Up arrival steps. A team member brings the Café order with your Drive Up purchase.
Target’s current Drive Up and Order Pickup help page says some temperature-sensitive Starbucks items may be discarded if you take too long to arrive; Target says it will refund affected items.
When Starbucks ordering may be unavailable
- Target may turn off Starbucks ordering if barista demand exceeds the Café’s production capacity.
- Ordering may be unavailable when the Café is due to close within 30 minutes.
- Starbucks orders placed through Drive Up currently do not earn Stars through a Starbucks account or app. Target GiftCards and Starbucks gift cards also cannot be used to pay for these orders.
- If an item is wrong or missing and you are still at the store, Target directs you to re-park and visit the Café. The help page does not describe an automated remake process.
How to return an item through Drive Up
Drive Up returns are available at most Target stores for some items—not every return qualifies. The app shows whether the item and store are eligible.

- Open the item’s Order Details in the Target app and select “Start a return.”
- If the item qualifies, choose the Drive Up return option and follow the directions Target emails you.
- Bring the item in your car and use the Drive Up lane to hand it to a team member.
If the Drive Up option does not appear, that return is not eligible for the curbside handoff. Check the return options shown for the item instead; eligibility varies by item and store.

Both are arranged through Target, but the collection point differs. Drive Up orders are brought to your car in the parking area through the app. For Order Pickup, go inside and collect the order at the Guest Service counter. For a return, check item and store eligibility in Order Details rather than assuming a curbside handoff is available.
