Can You Get Two Free Months of Microsoft 365 Family or Personal?

A two-month Microsoft 365 extension has been reported in some cancellation flows, but it is not a universal promotion. Check your account’s terms and subscription record.

Some Microsoft 365 subscribers have reported seeing an offer for two extra months while trying to cancel, change plans, or turn off recurring billing. It is a variable retention offer—not a publicly guaranteed promotion. Microsoft advertises a separate one-month trial for Family and Personal, so check your account’s offer and subscription record before relying on either benefit.

Is the two-month Microsoft 365 offer real?

It has been reported, but Microsoft does not promise two free months to every subscriber on its public U.S. subscription page. That page advertises one-month trials for Microsoft 365 Family and Personal and says subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled. The reported two-month offer is a separate retention incentive that may appear in some cancellation or recurring-billing flows. Microsoft’s U.S. plans and pricing page and Office Watch’s March 3, 2025 report describe those distinct contexts.

Office Watch reported that availability and wording can vary, and that some customers said the extension did not apply successfully. A 2026 Better Business Bureau complaint page includes Microsoft’s response in one customer’s case: after reviewing that account’s records, Microsoft said it found no applied two-month promotional entitlement. That individual dispute does not establish that the offer never exists; it does show why a message or button alone is not proof that extra time was added.

How to check for the offer and confirm it applied

  1. Sign in to the Microsoft account associated with your Microsoft 365 subscription and open its subscriptions or recurring-billing controls. The exact screen can depend on how you purchased the subscription.
  2. If you are considering cancellation or turning off recurring billing, read any offer shown in that flow before accepting. Check the stated extension, next billing date, amount, and whether recurring billing will remain on.
  3. Save the displayed terms, such as with a screenshot, before confirming.
  4. After accepting, return to the account’s subscription record and check whether the end or renewal date changed. Do not assume the extension took effect until the account record reflects it.

If no two-month offer appears, that does not mean you missed a promotion available to everyone. Microsoft’s subscription support guidance explains how to review a trial’s status, manage recurring billing, and check its expiry date. The precise labels and available actions may differ according to the subscription and purchase route.

Will Microsoft 365 bill you after the free months?

Do not assume the extension cancels your subscription or prevents future billing. Microsoft says subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled, and the reported retention offer’s exact post-offer terms are not established for every account. Before accepting, use the renewal date and amount shown in your own account as the terms that matter for your subscription.

For Microsoft’s publicly advertised trial, Support says you can cancel within 30 days without charge. That guidance applies to the trial; it should not be treated as a universal billing rule for every account-specific retention offer. Check the account’s recurring-billing status and displayed expiry date. Microsoft Support: cancel or manage a Microsoft 365 subscription.

Choose Family or Personal based on who needs access

Microsoft’s U.S. FAQ describes Family as shareable with up to five other people (six people total) and Personal as intended for one person. Compare that household need with the plan, price, and renewal terms displayed in your account; receiving a retention offer does not by itself make one plan the better value.
