A page now hosted by CHOOOSE displays different Atmos Rewards terms for 2026, but also says the campaign ended, so it does not confirm that passengers can currently buy credits and earn points.
How Alaska’s SAF credits and 2024 mileage offers worked
SAF means sustainable aviation fuel. In a May 7, 2024 announcement, Alaska said passengers could add a contribution during booking at levels corresponding to 5%, 10% or 20% of the estimated carbon impact of their trip. Mileage Plan members could earn 500 EQMs per $100 spent, with a maximum of 5,000 EQMs per year. Alaska described the emissions estimate as based on IATA Recommended Practice 1726 and operational inputs such as fuel consumption, flight path, seat configuration, cabin class and load factors. Alaska’s May 2024 announcement
Alaska promoted the offer again on November 1, 2024, with the same earn rate and cap. That year-end promotion was explicitly available only through December 31, 2024. It is expired; the 2024 terms should not be treated as a current way to earn status credit. Alaska’s November 2024 announcement

As observed on October 7, 2026, the CHOOOSE-hosted Alaska SAF page displays terms of one Atmos Rewards status point per dollar contributed, up to 10,000 status points through December 31, 2026. It says the points count toward 2026 status qualification and are not redeemable. However, the same page also displays “Campaign ended” and refers to a campaign ending 12/31/23. Because those messages conflict, the page alone does not establish that contributions are currently available or eligible for points. CHOOOSE-hosted Alaska SAF page
Alaska has separately announced changes to how Atmos members can earn points and status points on flights departing January 1, 2027 onward. Those flight-earning options—by distance, price or segments, available to choose from October 1, 2026—are distinct from the contribution terms shown on the SAF page. What a contribution does—and does not say about your flight
The CHOOOSE-hosted page says its estimate uses IATA’s CO2 Connect Emissions Calculator and follows Recommended Practice 1726. Inputs include aircraft fuel consumption, seat configuration, cabin class, aircraft type and historical load factors. Where available, IATA participant-airline primary data are used; otherwise, the calculation uses industry averages. The page says the estimate is informational and does not reflect actual emissions associated with a specific passenger’s flight. CHOOOSE page’s emissions-estimate explanation
That distinction matters: paying a contribution does not prove that your particular flight used SAF, nor does the estimate establish that your payment erased that flight’s emissions. Alaska’s 2024 announcements relayed an IATA lifecycle comparison that SAF can produce up to 80% lower emissions; this is a lifecycle figure attributed to Alaska/IATA, not a guaranteed reduction for an individual passenger’s trip. What to check before contributing
- Look for a live contribution option in Alaska’s booking flow or obtain confirmation directly from Alaska or CHOOOSE. The conflicting page messages do not verify an active campaign.
- Read the displayed earn rate, qualifying currency, cap and deadline before paying; do not assume the expired Mileage Plan EQM terms still apply under Atmos Rewards.
- Confirm whether the displayed credit is status-qualifying, redeemable, or both. The CHOOOSE page describes its displayed status points as non-redeemable.
- Decide whether the contribution makes sense to you even if the status-point offer is unavailable. The estimate is not a measurement of your flight’s actual emissions.
Alaska’s reported results from its earlier pilot
In its November 2024 announcement, Alaska reported that its 2023 pilot supported more than 500,000 gallons of SAF and that 8.6% of participating Mileage Plan members contributed the $1,000 maximum. Those are figures reported by Alaska, not independently verified outcomes. Alaska’s November 2024 announcement
