Food Papa and Papa Ride have been announced for Pakistan, and FoodPapa apps are listed in Apple’s Pakistan App Store. Those facts show an effort to build the services—not that they have achieved broad coverage, steady use, or profitable operations. Their prospects depend on building dense local networks of customers, restaurants, and riders while making each order and ride economically sustainable.
What has been announced—and what is verified
A March 2025 report said Sheikhani Group planned to launch Food Papa, a food-delivery service, and Papa Ride, a ride-hailing service, in the United States, UAE, and Pakistan. It reported that restaurant and rider applications were planned to open on April 18, 2025, with an official launch planned for June 20, 2025. Those dates were plans reported at the time, not proof of a full launch or continued service. MM News, March 2025
The same report attributed a goal of more than 50,000 jobs to the initiative. That is an announced target, not a verified employment outcome; available sources do not establish how many jobs, if any, were created. MM News, 2025
Apple’s Pakistan App Store lists FoodPapa consumer and rider apps. The rider listing describes sign-up, a rider kit, delivery work, and earnings features. App listings establish that apps were published; they do not establish that the services are active in particular Pakistani cities, how many transactions they handle, or whether riders earn consistently. Why Pakistan is a difficult market to enter
Food delivery and ride-hailing platforms need enough customers and service providers in the same places at the same times. A large national launch announcement does not by itself create this local density. Restaurants need orders, riders need worthwhile work, and customers need dependable service. If any side of that network is thin, delays, cancellations, and weak partner earnings can undermine the experience.
Food delivery competition
Pakistan’s Competition Commission said in a 2021 preliminary inquiry that fact-finding indicated foodpanda appeared to have a dominant position in online food delivery. The Commission cited foodpanda’s admitted volume of 100,000 orders per day in that inquiry context. This is a historical figure from a preliminary inquiry—not a current market-share estimate or a final finding of wrongdoing. Competition Commission of Pakistan, 2021
Competition also requires recruiting restaurants that can reliably fulfill orders. Foodpanda’s Pakistan merchant page, for example, says a partner should operate at least four hours per day, five days per week. That provides a concrete example of the operational commitment a platform may expect from merchants; it does not establish Food Papa’s onboarding rules or partner terms. Ride-hailing and platform competition
In February 2025, the Competition Commission met with Yango International to discuss ride-hailing, delivery, and other digital-platform services. The meeting signals continued interest in the sector, but says nothing by itself about Yango’s actual scale or Food Papa’s competitive position. Competition Commission of Pakistan, February 2025

What would determine whether the businesses can succeed
For a new delivery or ride-hailing service, app availability and launch announcements are early indicators. More persuasive evidence would show whether the service is dependable and can sustain participation from customers, merchants, and riders without relying indefinitely on costly incentives.
- Local density: Are enough customers, restaurants, and riders active in the same service areas to make orders and rides reliably available?
- Per-transaction economics: After incentives, support, payment handling, and operating costs, does each order or ride contribute enough to cover the business’s costs?
- Retention and reliability: Do customers return, merchants continue participating, and riders keep working on the platform? Are fulfillment and pickup dependable?
- Execution and capital: Can the operator fund customer acquisition and expansion while managing logistics and compliance?
- Verifiable outcomes: Are there credible figures for cities served, completed orders and rides, active partners, and jobs created?
These are the relevant tests for the announced platform model and the market conditions described by the Competition Commission and TechJuice. TechJuice identifies funding limits, economic instability, regulation, logistics, competition, and sustainable revenue as challenges for ventures of this kind; these are market-level risks, not evidence that either service has failed or overcome them. What is still unknown
The available sources do not provide reliable current figures for Food Papa or Papa Ride’s city coverage, completed orders or rides, active restaurants or riders, funding, partner fees, per-transaction economics, or actual jobs created. Without those operating measures, it is not possible to judge whether either service has established a durable business in Pakistan.
Foodpanda’s Pakistan terms identify Delivery Hero Pakistan Pvt Limited as the platform provider and state that the terms were updated as of August 2026. This is relevant context for identifying a competitor, not evidence about Food Papa’s performance or business terms. Foodpanda Pakistan terms
