Yes—Amazon has tested ways for customers to add fresh groceries while shopping for regular Amazon items, but a shared basket does not guarantee one package or one arrival time. Availability, delivery options and fees depend on your location, so check the offer shown for your address.
What Amazon tested
In June 2025, GeekWire reported that reporter Taylor Soper saw a grocery prompt after filling a cart on Amazon.com and selecting checkout. It offered more than 100 grocery items for same-day delivery. He added apples, cucumbers and blueberries to a cart that already held a micro SD card and dishwasher detergent.
Amazon told GeekWire it was “currently iterating on new experiences” to make it easier to shop for fresh groceries alongside items available for same-day delivery. This was one reported shopping experience, not evidence that every customer sees the same checkout screen.
Where Amazon said it had experimented
In the same GeekWire report, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said the company had experimented with the experience in Phoenix, Kansas City and Orlando, and that customers could add perishables such as eggs, milk, bread or yogurt to same-day orders. He described adoption as significant, but that characterization was Amazon’s, not an independently measured result.

Amazon’s May 2026 Phoenix trial announcement described customers shopping tens of thousands of grocery items, including fresh groceries, alongside millions of Amazon.com products, with delivery in hours. Amazon said it would expand the model as it tested and learned. That announcement supports the broader grocery-and-retail delivery offer; it does not establish that the exact checkout prompt GeekWire saw is available to everyone.
Can Amazon deliver groceries and regular items together?
Amazon’s stated aim is to let customers shop for groceries and regular items in a single experience, and its 2026 Phoenix trial description says customers could have them delivered together in hours. But “together” in a shopping basket does not necessarily mean one physical package or an identical arrival time.

In Soper’s individual order, the non-grocery items arrived in one package, while the groceries arrived about an hour later the next morning. That is one example, not a typical delivery-time guarantee or a measure of how often orders split.
Where the service is available and what it costs
In a May 2026 update, Amazon said fresh groceries through Same-Day Delivery were available in more than 2,300 US cities and towns, with further expansion planned during 2026. This broad availability claim does not confirm service at a particular address; enter your location and review the options Amazon displays.

The UK offer is separate from the US expansion: neither the US fees nor its availability should be applied to UK customers. Amazon’s UK launch announcement says the service lets customers add fresh groceries to a regular Amazon order in a single basket. The terms above reflect those announcements, not a guarantee that prices or eligibility remain unchanged.
How Amazon says it handles freshness
Amazon says its US perishable operation uses a temperature-controlled fulfillment network and a six-point quality check. It also says insulated bags are used for temperature-sensitive items depending on local weather. These are descriptions of Amazon’s process; the available figures do not establish independent quality outcomes or a delivery failure rate.

In GeekWire’s single reported order, groceries arrived in insulated bags and felt somewhat cool. Soper said the cucumbers looked and smelled odd and discarded them. That experience does not show how often produce arrives in poor condition, but it does illustrate why a grocery delivery should be checked on arrival rather than assumed fresh because it was packed in an insulated bag.

These measures describe Amazon’s reported business performance, not a promise about selection, delivery speed or produce quality for an individual order.
What to check before placing a mixed order
- Address eligibility: Confirm that the grocery and same-day options appear for your delivery address.
- Arrival timing: Review the delivery estimate for each item or group. A single cart can result in separate packages or arrival times.
- Fees and thresholds: Check the order minimum and delivery charge shown at checkout; they vary by market and may change.
- Grocery selection: Confirm that the specific produce or perishables you want are available. Amazon’s named examples include Roma tomatoes, but availability varies by location.
- On receipt: Inspect temperature-sensitive groceries and produce when they arrive, and use Amazon’s current order-support process if an item is not acceptable.
Is this a replacement for a dedicated grocery service?
The appeal is convenience: if the offer appears for your address, you may be able to add groceries to a regular Amazon shopping flow instead of building a separate order elsewhere. The trade-offs to compare are local eligibility, the items in stock, delivery windows, fees, how orders are grouped, and the process for handling a quality problem.
The evidence here does not support a detailed comparison with other grocery-delivery services. It also does not establish that groceries and non-grocery items will always share one checkout screen or arrive together. Treat the service as a location-dependent option and make the checkout details—not the idea of a single basket—the basis for deciding whether it suits your needs.
