On April 30, 2025, GeekWire reported that Spokane-based BuyWander raised $2 million in seed funding to support expansion into the Seattle area. The company planned a 30,000-square-foot warehouse at 18726 East Valley Highway in Kent, Washington, and named June 1, 2025, as its intended opening date. At the time, BuyWander also operated a Spokane facility. GeekWire’s April 2025 report described the announcement as a plan, not confirmation that the site opened on that date.
The original announcement is best understood as an early expansion milestone, rather than a description of the company’s current size. Later reporting shows a larger Kent operation and additional funding.

What BuyWander sells and how its auctions work
BuyWander is an auction marketplace for returned and overstocked retail goods. GeekWire reporting names inventory from retailers including Amazon, Target, Walmart and Home Depot. Items can range widely: coverage has cited air fryers and Apple Watches, as well as tools, televisions and dirt bikes. Because the stock is irregular, those examples should not be treated as a promise that a particular item or category will be available.
According to GeekWire’s 2026 coverage, online auctions start at $1 and run for seven days. Buyers who win collect purchases at local fulfillment centers, avoiding shipping. In September 2026, GeekWire reported BuyWander’s figures of 50,000 active and winning customers, nearly 500,000 unique items sold in the preceding month, an average discount of 75% off retail and 400% year-over-year growth. These are company metrics as reported by GeekWire; the coverage does not establish independent auditing or provide enough detail to interpret every measure as a standardized financial or operating metric.

The earlier April 2025 snapshot was much smaller: GeekWire reported 10,000 registered users in Spokane, $370,000 in revenue in March, more than one million page views that month, an average order value close to $80 and six semi-trucks processed per week. Those figures describe the 2025 period only and should not be compared directly with later customer or sales figures without consistent definitions and time periods.
GeekWire also cited estimates of roughly $850 billion in annual U.S. retail returns and online return rates near 20%, attributing them to the National Retail Federation and Happy Returns. The article did not identify the underlying report’s publication year. It reported that processing a return can cost 20% to 65% of an item’s original retail price, but did not identify an original study or publication year for that range. These are contextual estimates, not BuyWander-specific measurements.

Why the company expanded beyond Spokane
BuyWander’s CFO, Brock Kowalchuk, told GeekWire in 2026 that Spokane was a useful place to start and gather feedback, while building a larger leadership team required the talent base he believed Seattle could provide, particularly in retail and technology. The company’s move to Kent therefore accompanied a broader operational expansion, not just the warehouse plan announced in 2025.
In the 2025 announcement, co-CEO Jordan Allen framed the marketplace around affordable goods and resale businesses. In 2026, as CEO, Allen described the opportunity as a marketplace for unusual, varied merchandise that might otherwise be difficult to sell through standard retail channels. That is the company’s positioning; it does not guarantee a particular discount, product condition or value on any individual purchase.
