Builder.ai appointed Manpreet Ratia CEO on 27 February 2025, while founder Sachin Dev Duggal remained on its board as Founder & Chief Wizard. The leadership change was followed by reports of restructuring and, in May, the company’s announcement that its main unit, Engineer.ai Corporation, would enter insolvency proceedings. The phrase “a new era begins” reflected the optimism of the February announcement, not the eventual outcome.
Who became Builder.ai’s CEO?
Builder.ai announced Ratia’s appointment on 27 February 2025. He reported to the board; Duggal left the CEO role but remained a board member and retained the title Founder & Chief Wizard, according to the company’s announcement.
Ratia said his focus would be scaling effectively, improving operational execution and continuing to create value for customers, employees and investors. Duggal described the change as bringing in a fresh perspective after eight years of growth. Those were statements of intent at the time, not evidence that the company later achieved those aims.
What happened after the appointment?
April: restructuring and revised 2023 revenue
On 2 April, Tech.eu reported that Builder.ai was undergoing a significant restructuring under Ratia and that 2023 revenue had been restated to $140 million. It also relayed an estimate, attributed to sources cited by the Financial Times, that the global workforce might fall from about 770 to roughly 500—around 270 positions. Ratia did not confirm specific headcount figures in the report, so the reduction should be treated as an estimate, not a confirmed final tally. Tech.eu’s report

May: Engineer.ai Corporation announces insolvency proceedings
In May, Builder.ai said Engineer.ai Corporation, “known as Builder.ai,” would enter insolvency proceedings and an administrator would manage its affairs. The company attributed its financial position to historic challenges and past decisions. This was an announcement of proceedings; it does not establish their eventual result. The Business Times reported on 21 May that Ratia said a creditor had seized cash. That is an attributed account in contemporaneous reporting, not an independently established finding in the company’s insolvency statement. The Business Times report

What do the reported revenue figures mean?
The figures refer to different periods and claims; they should not be combined as if they were the same measure:
| Period or figure | What was reported | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| 2023 revenue | $140 million | Tech.eu reported this as Builder.ai’s restated 2023 revenue. |
| 2024 sales projection | $220 million | Bloomberg reported that Builder.ai had presented this projection to creditors. |
| 2024 actual revenue | About $50 million | Bloomberg reported this figure based on people familiar with the matter; it was not established by the company’s insolvency statement. |
The two 2024 figures—projection and reported actual revenue—come from Bloomberg’s 22 May account, based on unnamed sources. They are not an audited comparison established in the company announcement. They also concern 2024, unlike the separate $140 million restatement for 2023. Bloomberg’s report

What is known about Builder.ai’s services now?
The insolvency announcement named Engineer.ai Corporation and said an administrator would manage its affairs. It does not establish whether Builder.ai products or customer services remain available, whether an administrator approved a sale or successor service, or how the proceedings concluded. The announcement alone is not enough to determine the status of any particular customer account or product.
